10th Earl of Ormonde

Thomas Butler, 10th Earl of Ormonde (see here and here),
favourite of Elizabeth,
built Ormond Castle, Carrick-on-Suir, Co.Tipperary, c.1568,
today this survives as a (commonplace in England, but almost unique in Ireland) unfortified Elizabethan manor house, one of the most beautiful buildings in Ireland,
mar 2ndly to Elizabeth Sheffield,
Elizabeth died 1601, bur St.Canice's, Kilkenny [according to records, no visible monument],
he died 1614 [think NOT 1615],
bur St.Canice's, Kilkenny [according to records, no visible monument].

• Unlike Kilkenny Castle, Ormond Castle escaped "improvement" in the 19th cent, and survives much as built.
