Our common ancestors - Butler - Contents


Sir William Boleyn,
mar Margaret Butler,
had issue:

  1. Thomas Boleyn, 1st Earl of Wiltshire,
    of Hever Castle, Kent,
    granted title of Earl of Ormond 1528 (taken away from the Butler family),
    his family fell 1536, his dau Anne and her brother executed,
    the Earldom of Ormond went back to the Butler family 1538,
    he died 1539,
    had issue:

    1. Mary Boleyn,
      mistress of Henry VIII,
      mar 1520 to William Carey,
      had issue:

      1. Catherine Carey, born about 1524.
      2. Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon, born 1526.

        There is a long-standing rumour (dating from this period) that Henry VIII was the real father of Mary's two Carey children.

    2. Anne Boleyn,
      courted by Henry VIII from 1526,
      she mar 1533 to Henry VIII and had issue.
