Richard Butler (see here), of Kilcash, Co.Tipperary,
the Kilcash branch were Catholic,
had issue:

1. Thomas Butler of Kilcash, mar Margaret Bourke [Catholic],
   she died 1744 [the poem Caoine Cill Chais (and here) is a lament for her],
   had issue:
   1. Honora Butler, or Honoria, Catholic,
      mar 1720 [see poem written on their marriage by Aodhagán Ó Rathaille]
      to Valentine Browne, 3rd Viscount Kenmare and had issue.
      [At this stage Kilkenny Castle and the estates were still in the possession of the attainted 2nd Duke, but they would eventually come to her branch of the family.]

   2. John Butler, 15th Earl of Ormonde (see here).

   1. Walter Butler, 16th Earl of Ormonde
      [Earldom became Marquessate 1825, Marquessate extinct 1997].

• The Earldom of Ormonde will survive, but is currently disputed. It will go to the Mountgarret branch unless claimed by further possible descendants of 9th Earl.

• Kilkenny Castle was family seat until 1935. Now owned by state.
