Joe Donovan,
born 1833 or 1834,
of Grouse Lodge, Co.Limerick (some distance S of Shanagolden, just SW of Kilcolman).
See entry in tree by Paddy Waldron.
He mar Kate Murray [born 1839, dau of Peter Murray].
He is described as farmer, of Grouse Lodge, at mar settlement of his brother Michael 1870.
"Joseph Donovan" is listed as farmer, Grouselodge, Kilcolman, under Kilcolman in [Postal Directory of Munster, 1886].
He died 1897, age 63 or 64 yrs, think NOT 1886.
Joe and Kate had issue:

1. Daniel Donovan, Dan, born 1863,
   emigrated to Australia 1885 or 1886, took his brother Terence with him,
   settled in Victoria,
   the story is that he and Terence joined the police,
   and they were involved in the conflict with the Australian Aborigines, and Dan was somehow shot dead, before 1895.

   
   

2. Peter Donovan,
   Peter M. Donovan, born 1865,
   qualified as a druggist,
   worked Listowel, Co.Kerry,
   died while swimming on holiday at Ballybunion, Co.Kerry, Tue 20 Aug 1901, age 36 yrs,
   funeral report says he "expired on the strand from weak action of the heart",
   funeral Thur 22 Aug 1901, bur Kilbradran graveyard,
   see funeral report in Limerick Chronicle, Sat 24 August 1901.

   
   

3. Margaret Donovan, born 1866.

   One of the daughters (probably Margaret) is:

   (dau) Donovan,
   mar pre-1901 to John Dalton,
   both of them were at Peter's funeral 1901,
   had issue:

   1. Stephen Dalton, born pre-1901.
   2. James Dalton, born pre-1901.

      think descendant of this branch:

      1. Séan Dalton, of Limerick.

   
   

4. Michael Donovan, born 1867.

5. Jerry Donovan, born Jan 1869, had issue:
   1. 4 sons, all in US Army or Navy, think one called Denis.

6. Terence Donovan,
   born Dec 1869, same year as his brother Jerry,
   Terence Francis Donovan, known as "Frank",
   went to Australia 1885 or 1886 with his brother Daniel,
   the story is that he and Daniel were in the police, involved in conflict with the Australian Aborigines, Daniel was killed,
   after Daniel died, Terence went back to Ireland 1895,
   went to USA 1896,
   mar in New York to Margaret Kelly,
   lived Long Island, New York,
   he fl 1915,
   had issue:
   1. Pearl Donovan,
      Margaret Pearl Donovan.

   
   

7. John Donovan,
   John Murray Donovan, born 1871, Co.Limerick,
   inherited Grouse Lodge.

   
   

8. Ed Donovan,
   Edward M., Ned, born 1873,
   of Ballymackerry,
   mar Bridget L.,
   served on committee of Ardagh Co-operative creamery 1924-31,
   she died 27 July 1928,
   he died 10 Sept 1933, age 60 yrs,
   both bur Kilbradran graveyard.

   
   

9. Joe Donovan, born 1875.

10. May Donovan, born 1877,
    must have died young because Mary is called Mai.

11. Mary Donovan,
    "Mai" on grave, born 1881,
    died 21 Dec 1948, age 67 yrs,
    bur Kilbradran graveyard.
