Charles James Fox,
the Whig politician,
born 1749,
leader of the opposition (to the Prime Minister Pitt),
associated with the Prince Regent,
but shared some of the republican sympathies of
his rebel 1st cousin
Lord Edward Fitzgerald,
he was the leading opponent of the powers of monarchy of his time,
and highly influential, despite the limited success he had
in actually being in power,
supported American independence, approved in general of French revolution,
yet in England still opposed propertyless vote,
it was Fox who in 1782 enabled
Grattan's Home Rule parliament in Ireland,
in 1806 he passed a resolution promising a speedy end to the slave trade,
died 1806, age 57 yrs, bur Westminster Abbey.
