Phons O'Mara, born 13th Oct 1887,
educ Clongowes, there with Frank Flanagan,
listed at Strand House with father in census 1911, listed as "Superintendant" of bacon factory,
he is listed as merchant, living Strand House, at mar,
mar 20 Jan 1915 [her age 19], St.Joseph's, Limerick [GROI] to Monica Delaney [born 1896, dau of James J. Delaney, merchant, think NOT Delany],
she was living Mallow St, Limerick, at mar,
he was Mayor of Limerick 1918, Republican, see the Town Hall, Limerick,
Mayor of Limerick 1919 (second term),
as Lord Mayor, negotiated truce with the Limerick Soviet 1919,
see definition of Soviet, note the Russian Revolution was 1917,
he lived in Mulcair (the Mulcair Rd area), SW side of Limerick city,
he moved to Dublin,
he bought Donnelly's bacon factory, Dublin, from his brother James, mid-late 1940s,
he must be Alphonsus M. O'Mara, "Cul-na-Greina", 81 Merrion Rd, Dublin, listed in [Thom's, 1945],
he lived in "Mulcaire" (thus spelt, named after his former home in Limerick), 108 Rock Rd, Booterstown, Co.Dublin (beside Willow Park, not far from Booterstown Ave junction, but not at it),
he is listed at Mulcaire, 108 Rock Rd, in [Thom's] from 1950 to death,
it was a Victorian house, called "Coote Hall" before he arrived and re-named it,
Chairman of Donnelly's bacon factory, also ran bacon shops in Dublin, became very wealthy,
used go to Monte Carlo on holiday, reputed to have "broken the bank" at Monte Carlo on one occasion,
died in Monte Carlo, 16th Feb 1958, age 70 yrs,
bur Glasnevin Cemetery, near his brother James,
the President Sean T. O'Kelly and Taoiseach Eamon de Valera attended his funeral,
funeral list in Irish Press, 22 Feb 1958.

Monica lived "Mulcaire",
"Mulcaire" was sold and demolished in 1970s,
[Pearson, 1998], says "Mulcaire" sold 1971, demolished,
though [Thom's] shows O'Mara there up to 1974 edn,
Monica died in nursing home, Kilcroney, nr Bray, 25th Dec 1985, age 89 yrs, bur Glasnevin,
had issue:


  1. Stephen O'Mara, born 28th Apr 1916,
    mar Osra O'Dwyer [born 1921, NOT Ossra, NOT Ozra],
    he ran Donnelly's,
    Donnelly's shut down c.1965,
    Osra died St.Michael's Hospital, Dun Laoghaire, 20th Oct 1997, age 76 yrs,
    funeral 23 Oct, bur Glasnevin,
    he died Beechfield Manor Nursing Home, Ballybrack Road, Shankill, Co. Dublin, 29th Aug 1998, age 82 yrs,
    funeral 2 Sept, bur Glasnevin,
    had issue:

    1. Osra O'Mara.
    2. Phons O'Mara.
    3. Stephen O'Mara, mar and had issue.
    4. Monica O'Mara.
    5. John O'Mara.
    6. Patrick O'Mara.
    7. Clodagh O'Mara.
    8. James O'Mara.
    9. Richard O'Mara.


  2. Jim O'Mara, James,
    mar his 2nd cousin Ruth Carton.



A local priest, and:
