William Conyngham Plunket, 1st Baron Plunket, born 1765,
MP for Dublin University 1812-27, Attorney-General of Ireland,
cr 1827, Lord Chancellor of Ireland,
had issue:
  1. Thomas Plunket, 2nd Baron Plunket, born 1792,
    mar 1819 to Louisa Jane Foster
    [the Foster family owned Ballymascanlan House, Ballymascanlan, Ballymascanlan par, Dundalk, Co.Louth, in the 19th cent - though [Irish Country Houses] says it was built for McNeill c.1840, apparently the house was altered for R.G. Foster in 1863],
    had issue:

    1. The Hon. Katherine Plunket, born 22nd Nov 1820,
      living Ballymascanlan House at time of death 1932,
      died unmarried, 14th Oct 1932, age 111 yrs. She is the oldest Irish person who ever lived.

  2. John Plunket, 3rd Baron Plunket, had issue:
    1. Rev. William Conyngham Plunket, 4th Baron Plunket. Statue on Kildare St, Dublin.





The Papal Count Plunkett lived at Ballymascanlan in his old age from at least 1945. Did he buy the house from Plunket after 1932 (and is the name just a coincidence)? Or were they related (but he was Catholic).


P.J. Plunkett, of Dublin, had issue:

George Noble Plunkett, Count Plunkett (and here),
born 1851, Dublin,
Catholic, created Papal Count by Leo XIII,
Irish nationalist, Member of the 1st Dail 1919, Minister for Foreign Affairs,
anti-Treaty in Civil War,
living Ballymascanlan from at least 1945 [Thom's, 1945] until his death 1948,
died 1948, age 97 yrs, see [Dict. Ir. Writers],
had issue:

  1. Joseph Mary Plunkett (and here),
    poet and leader of 1916 Rising, signatory of the Proclamation,
    executed 1916.
