William Duff, 1st Earl Fife (see here), born 1696,
built Duff House, nr Banff, N Aberdeenshire,
cr 1759, generally styled "Earl Fife" rather than "Earl of Fife",
had issue:


Alexander Duff, 3rd Earl Fife (see here), born 1731,
mar 1775 to Mary Skene,
succ 1809, died 1811, age 80 yrs,
had issue:


  1. James Duff, 4th Earl Fife, born 6th Oct 1776,
    succ 1811, inherited Skene and Cariston from the extinct Skene family 1827,
    added front gate to Skene House and laid out courtyard, 1847,
    portrait in Duff House, died 9th Mar 1857, age 80 yrs.

  2. Sir Alexander Duff, had issue:

    1. James Duff, 5th Earl Fife,
      cr Baron Skene of Skene, 1857, in the peerage of the UK (Earl Fife was in the peerage of Ireland),
      mar Agnes Hay [dau of 18th Earl of Erroll and grand-dau of William IV] and had issue:

      1. Alexander Duff, 1st Duke of Fife (see here),
        mar Princess Louise [dau of Edward VII] and had issue:

        1. Princess Maud of Fife (see here),
          mar Charles Carnegie, 11th Earl of Southesk and had issue:

          1. James Carnegie, 3rd Duke of Fife (see here), born 1929,
            high up in the Line of succession to the British Throne.
