The first castle at Roebuck
was built in the 13th century.
Roebuck passed by marriage
in 1466 to
Robert Barnewall, 1st Baron Trimlestown (died 1470).
A new castle was built in the 1562-1573 period by
Robert Barnewall, 5th Baron Trimlestown (died 1573).
Roebuck Castle had fallen into ruins by 1765.
A new house, called Roebuck Castle, was built between 1788 and 1794, using (it was later discovered) some of the old walls.
The new Roebuck Castle was remodelled in the 19th century.
It was discovered in 2026 that some of the old castle walls survive inside the new Roebuck Castle.
Roebuck Castle is part of
UCD.
