Robert Reid,
born Apr-Nov, 1817 (matching age on census with age at death), Alford, Aberdeenshire,
mar 1851 to Isobella Noltie [born 24th Jan 1826],
census of (4th Apr) 1881 has them at Brainley, SE of Gallowhill, and SW of Alford (see map), him age 63,
census of (5th Apr) 1891 has them at "Brainley farm", him age 73,
he died 8th Nov 1895, Brainley, Alford, age 78 yrs,
bur Kirkyard of Alford,
she died 6th Jan 1897, Kinstair Cottage (Kinstair is E of Brainley), S of Alford, age 70 yrs, of "senile decay" [GRO.Scot],
bur with her husband at Alford,
had issue:
  1. Robert Reid, born 8th Oct 1852, Alford, apparently bapt same day, Alford,
    census of 1881 has him at home at Brainley,
    census of (5th Apr) 1891 has him at home at Brainley farm, age 38,
    census describes him as "grain merchant",
    reported his mother's death 1897 [GRO.Scot],
    died 4th Aug 1933, Alford, age 80 yrs, bur Kirkyard of Alford.

  2. James Reid, born 17th Feb 1854, Alford, and apparently bapt same day,
    died 25th Apr 1883, London, age 29 yrs [grave, Alford],
    had issue:
    1. James William Reid, born Aug 1882,
      died Dec 1884, age 2 yrs 4 months, bur Kirkyard of Alford.

  3. Henry Reid, born 21st Aug 1855, Alford,
    census of (4th Apr) 1881 has him at home at Brainley, age 25,
    census describes him as "blacksmith",
    died 7th July 1895, Oregon, USA, age 39 yrs [grave, Alford].

  4. George Reid, born 27th Apr 1857, Alford,
    drowned at sea, 6th Oct 1888, age 31 yrs [grave, Alford].

  5. William Reid, born 16th Feb 1859, Alford,
    died 13th Sept 1859, Brainley, age 6 months,
    bur Kirkyard of Alford in the grave that later became his parents' grave.

  6. Mary Reid, born 12th July 1860, Alford,
    census of (4th Apr) 1881 has her at home at Brainley, age 20,
    died 15th Nov 1926, USA, age 66 yrs [grave, Alford].

  7. Archibald Reid, born 5th June 1862, Alford,
    census of (4th Apr) 1881 has him at home at Brainley, age 18,
    died 1909, age 47 yrs [grave, Alford].

  8. John Reid, born 29th Mar 1864, Alford.

  9. Charles Reid, born 25th Mar 1866, Alford,
    census of (4th Apr) 1881 has him at home at Brainley, age 15.

  10. Edward Reid, born 31st Aug 1868, Alford,
    census of (4th Apr) 1881 has him at home at Brainley, age 12.
