Sir James Butler (see here),
of Polestown (or Paulstown), Co.Kilkenny.

He mar (after a long affair) Sabh MacMurrough-Kavanagh [or Sadhbh, or Sabine, or Kavanagh].
She was dau of Donal Reagh MacMurrough-Kavanagh, King of Leinster, or Domhnall mac Gerald MacMurrough-Kavanagh, or Kavanagh, who was King of Leinster 1431-1476, died 1476.
Donal Reagh MacMurrough-Kavanagh is son of Gerald, son of Art Og MacMurrough-Kavanagh, King of Leinster (died 1417).
Sir James and Sabh had a long term affair. Eventually he got permission to marry her, but the sons born before the marriage could not inherit the Earldom of Ormond, and it went to the son born after the marriage.

Sir James succ his father in 1464.
He used father's title of "The MacRichard of Ossory".
He was granted Callan, Co.Kilkenny, in 1468.
He died 16 April 1487.
Sabh died 1508.
Both bur Augustinian Friary, Callan, Co.Kilkenny.
Sir James and Sabh had issue:

Edmund Butler.
Ancestor of Butler of Newchome, Co.Kilkenny. (See unproved descent of Yeats.)
Theobald Butler.
Edmund and Theobald were born before parents' marriage, and hence disbarred from the Earldom.
Piers Butler, 8th Earl of Ormond,
born 1467, after parents' marriage.
