Henry Cecil, 1st Marquess of Exeter is immortalised in The Lord of Burleigh by Tennyson.
David Cecil, 6th Marquess of Exeter won the gold medal in the 400 m hurdles at the 1928 Summer Olympics.
"Lord Andrew Lindsay", the aristocratic hurdler in the movie Chariots of Fire (1981), is partially based on him.
