Bell

Buildings in Loughbrown townland, at the Curragh racecourse, Co.Kildare.
Loughbrown townland is the area N and E of the main group of buildings. (See "Paddock".)
From 1887 to 1913 map.
Around 1951, Kevin Bell and Morny Wing were training at Loughbrown Lodge (also called Loughbrown House).
Now heavily re-developed. Loughbrown Lodge seems gone. See modern map.

Dick Bell,
Richard, born 1881, Co.Kildare.
Listed as "William Bell" on dau's mar cert, but this seems to be just an error.
He was a racehorse trainer.
Listed as "trainer" at mar 1902. Living Osborne Lodge, on NW edge of the Curragh racecourse, Co.Kildare. (Osborne Lodge is still there today. See map.)
He mar 5 Feb 1902 to Ellen Farrell [born 1882, Co.Kildare].
They mar at Kildare town RC church. See mar cert from here.
Lived in Loughbrown townland. This is the townland just N and E of the main group of buildings (the paddock) at the Curragh racecourse.
See them listed in 1911 census in Loughbrown townland. He is "jockey".
The census House Return shows Bell in 1911 is in one of the middle-sized houses of Loughbrown townland (i.e. not Loughbrown Lodge or Loughbrown Cottage).

At dau's birth 1913 they are living "Loughbrown". He is a "groom".
Ellen lived (possibly when a widow) at St.Joseph's Ave, off Charlotte St, Newbridge, Co.Kildare.
She apparently died 1962 at Station Rd, Newbridge.
They had issue:

  1. Josie Bell,
Josephine, born 11 Apr 1913, "Loughbrown", Curragh racecourse, Co.Kildare.
    See birth cert from here.
She mar 24 April 1939 to Morny Wing [flat race jockey, widower, born 2 Aug 1896]. No issue.
They mar at Terenure RC church, Dublin. See mar cert from here.
At mar they are both listed as of 109 Kimmage Rd East, Terenure. That number does not have an entry in [Thom's, 1939, p.1656 insert].

  2. Kevin Bell.
    Racehorse trainer.
    He mar Kitty ----.
He trained at Loughbrown Lodge stables (also called Loughbrown House), beside the Curragh racecourse.
In 1951 his brother-in-law Morny Wing joined him at Loughbrown Lodge. They ran a racehorse training stables together for a short time.
    Morny retired 1952.
Kevin continued the business. See Irish Independent, January 14, 1953.
He trained the winner of the Irish Grand National in 1969.
