Fogarty

This is only here to flesh out the family of Canon John McGuirk, who may not even be related to our McGuirk / Maguirk family.

Daniel Fogarty,
of Borrisoleigh, Co.Tipperary.
Dublin Metropolitan Police (DMP) Sergeant.
Occupation listed as Police, Acting Inspector, at dau's mar 1870. He was in charge of Donnybrook police station, Co.Dublin.
He died on 31 Oct 1874.
He had issue:

  1. Anne Fogarty,
born Dublin, 1849 (by census and grave) or 1850 (by age at mar) or 1852 (by census).
    Living Donnybrook, Co.Dublin, at mar.

She mar 1stly, 11 July 1870, to Owen McGuirk and had issue [including Canon John McGuirk].
They mar at St.Mary's RC church, Haddington Rd, Dublin.
See mar cert from here. Mar wit by David Dee and May O'Halloran.
    Owen died 11 May 1874.

Soon after her husband's death, her father died 31 Oct 1874.
She moved to Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire), Co.Dublin.
She set up a shop, with her brother John, at 111 George's St Lower, Kingstown.
    [Thom's, 1879, p.1535] shows "Mrs. M'Guirk", tobacconist, at 111 George's St Lower. (Not yet there in [Thom's, 1878, p.1533].)
She is described on mar cert 1879 as shopkeeper, of 111 George's St Lower, Kingstown.

Anne mar 2ndly, 10 Sept 1879, to Thomas Reilly [or O'Reilly, born 1853, Kingstown, Co.Dublin].
This is the marriage in Kingstown, Co.Dublin, on 10 Sept 1879 of Thomas Reilly and Anna McGuirk. See mar cert from here.
The marriage cert has errors, but it is definitely them. She is described as a spinster, dau of Thomas McGuirk, shop keeper. She should be a widow, and Thomas McGuirk would be her late husband's father. But we know this is them since her descendants know independently that she had the shop in Kingstown. Most likely the mar cert was filled in by a third party (like the priest) from memory.
Note that Thomas Reilly is "book keeper" on the mar cert, which fits perfectly. This is them.
He lived in rooms at 23 Lower Georges St, almost opposite 111 Lower Georges St, which is how they met.

    [Thom's, 1880, p.1543] shows "Mrs. M'Guirk", tobacconist, at 111 George's St Lower.
At dau's birth 1880, Thomas is "book keeper". Living 2 Washington St, S Circular Rd, Dublin.
"P. Ward" and "Patrick Cummins" are listed at 111 George's St Lower in [Thom's, 1881, p.1545]. McGuirk or Reilly or Fogarty are gone.
At admin of 1st husband's estate 1881, Anne is living 20 Leinster Ave, North Strand road.
See them listed in 1901 census at 12 Glenarm Avenue, Drumcondra, Dublin. He is accountant. [Thom's, 1901, p.1612] shows census numbers match the street numbers.
The family lived as at 1911-1915 at 13 St.Columba's Rd, Drumcondra, Dublin.
See him listed in 1911 census at 13 St.Columba's Rd, Drumcondra. He is Commercial Clerk in Coach Making Trade.
Anne is found in 1911 census with dau Margaret in Co.Wicklow.
Thomas is listed as "accountant" at daughters' marriages 1913 and 1915.
1911 census says Anne had 11 children, 7 still living. Probably this includes both marriages, not just her marriage to Reilly.
    Anne died 18 June 1926.
She was bur with 1st husband in Glasnevin Cemetery.
Anne had issue by 2nd mar:

    1. Alice Reilly,
born 3 Oct 1880. See birth cert from here,
At mar she is living 13 St.Columba's Rd, Drumcondra.
She mar 22 Oct 1913 to Louis De Clercq.
They mar in Dublin. See mar cert from here.
Her half-brother Fr. John McGuirk presided at the wedding.
Louis is listed as "electrician" at mar.
He is listed as "electrician" at dau's mar 1942.
"Mrs. De Clercq", sister of Canon John McGuirk, and "Mr. L. De Clercq", brother-in-law, are at his funeral 1948.
      They had issue:

      1. Alice Marie De Clercq.
She mar 22 Apr 1942 to Joseph Doyle [son of Francis Doyle].
They mar in Shankill, Co.Dublin. See mar cert from here.
Her half-uncle Canon John McGuirk presided at the wedding.
Joseph is listed as "accountant" at mar.
"Mrs. J. Doyle", niece of Canon John McGuirk, and "Mr. J. Doyle", "nephew", are at his funeral 1948.

    2. Lucy Reilly,
born 1891 (by age in census).
She mar 16 June 1915 to Thomas Gill.
      See mar cert from here.
Her half-brother Fr. John McGuirk presided at the wedding.
