Robert Cussen,
born 5 Aug 1865, Kilcolman East, Co.Limerick.
He was educ Blackrock College, Dublin.
He played rugby. Captained Blackrock College's first senior rugby team in 1882 (this was before the SCT was founded).
He qualified as solicitor in Trinity term 1890.
He worked for a time for Cosgreave's solicitors in Rathkeale, Co.Limerick.
John Francis Cosgreave, Main St, Rathkeale, is listed under solicitors in [Ashe's Directory, 1891-92, p.91]. Cosgreave also has office at 65 Dame St, Dublin.

Solicitor in Newcastle West:
Robert opened his own firm in Newcastle West, Co.Limerick.
[Thom's, 1894] lists him with offices at Newcastle West and at 65 Dame St, Dublin (same address as Cosgreave previously).
He was at funeral of James Nolan 1897. He was then living Newcastle West.
He was living Newcastle West at mar 1899.

He mar 31 July 1899 [Newcastle West RC church] to Mary C. Moylan [born 1879, Co.Limerick].

Mary was living Newcastle West at mar, dau of John D. Moylan, postmaster.

[Thom's, 1901] and [Thom's, 1910] lists him with offices at Newcastle West and at 65 Dame St, Dublin.
They are listed in [Census, 1901] at North Quay, Newcastle West (see map). He is "solicitor". They have 1 servant.
He must be the incorrectly written "C. Cussen, solicitor" who is listed as cousin of Peter Donovan at his funeral 1901.
He was executor of the will of his grand-aunt Margaret Cussen (née Nolan) (died 1903).
West Limerick Coroner 1910 to 1940.
They are listed in [Census, 1911] at North Quay, Newcastle West. He is "solicitor". They have 2 servants.
[Thom's, 1919] and [Thom's, 1929] and [Thom's, 1935] lists him as Coroner for the "Extreme Western Division" of Co.Limerick, with offices at Newcastle West and at 12 Dame St, Dublin.

He was also a farmer.
He was interested in Irish language revival.
President of Newcastle West Rugby Club.
One of the founders of the Clounanna coursing meetings.
He died 29 Sept 1940, at his home, South Quay, Newcastle West, age 75 yrs.
