Michael had an illegitimate child in 1845 with
Elizabeth Gardiner.
It is unclear why they did not marry.
The son Michael was born in July 1845.
The father Michael married Margaret McElroy in 1849.
The son Michael went to the US with his father and stepmother.
At the son's
marriage in 1872 his mother is listed as Margaret McElroy.
His
death cert has his mother as "Annie McElroy".
But his baptism shows this is not true.
He has a different mother.
Who Elizabeth Gardiner is is unknown.
It has been read as "Lardiner" but the original entry seems clear it is "Gardiner".
There is an "Edmund Gardiner"
listed
in
[Griffiths Valuation, 1850]
with a modest holding at Poulacapple West, Kilvemnon parish (NE of Kilvemnon, SE of Mullinahone).
Michael had natural issue by Elizabeth:
- Michael Kickham.
Natural child.
He was born 4 July 1845 [death cert says 4 July 1847, but bapt shows this is 1845].
He was bapt 8 July 1845 [Mullinahone RC par records], sp Bridget Cody.
