Jeremiah Carmody

Jeremiah Carmody,
Jerry, born 10 May 1892, Ardfert, Co.Kerry.
See entry (login needed) in [Talbot tree].
In 1911 census he is found at home on father's farm, Cloon Glebe, Tralee road, S side of Ardfert, Co.Kerry. Jeremiah is also "farmer".

He was in IRA on Republican side in Civil War:
[Talbot tree] said that: "Old Jerry was a colourful character. Very wiry and athletic even in old age. He was a member of the old IRA. He was against the Treaty. He associated with the legendary Aero Lyons and his gang. They were under siege in Clashmelcon Caves near Causeway in 1922 but Jerry survived."
This is inaccurate. The siege was in 1923 and Carmody was not there.
It refers to a fight on 16 to 18 April 1923 at Clashmelcon Caves (or Clashmealcon Caves), on the coast near Brown's Castle, in Clashmelcon townland, N of Causeway, Co.Kerry. Aengus O Snodaigh lists the six IRA men in the fight. The list does not include Carmody. All six were killed. The leader was Timothy ("Aero") Lyons, who was shot in cold blood while surrendering.
Most likely, Carmody was a comrade of "Aero" Lyons but was not at that fight.
