John Henry Slaven.
He was a British colonel.
Lived in Antigua, West Indies. See History of Antigua and Barbuda.
Listed as "engineer" on son's mar cert.
He had issue by an Antiguan woman:

  
  1. Charles Slaven,
    Charles Edward Slaven,
    born 1854 (by age in 1901 census) or 1853 (by age in 1921 passenger record) or 1856 (by marriage cert).
    He was born in Antigua.
    He was "a mulatto born in Antigua (Mixed heritage; father a British colonel (John Henry Slaven) and mother an Antiguan, possibly, black)" according to a 2011 post by "nicca".
    Charles went to England. He is listed as a "seaman" at mar.

    He mar 23 Sept 1895 to Ada Day [Ada Louisa Day, born 9 Oct 1868].
    He was age 39 to 42. She was age 26 and pregnant. They mar in Stepney, London. See mar cert.
    Living 37 Sirdar Rd, Kensington, at dau's bapt 1897. He is "sailor".
    Living 11 St.Thomas Rd, Mile End, at dau's bapt in Feb 1900. He is "night watchman".
    Living 331 Mile End Road, Mile End, London, at son's birth Dec 1900 and bapt Jan 1901. Charles is "excavator's labourer" and "sailor".
    They are listed in March 1901 census at 354 Mile End Road, Mile End Old Town, Stepney. He is "navvy / labourer" working on "electric railway". She is "tailoress".
    An entry for the children Edith and Daisy on 6 Mar 1906 in St Joseph's School register, Tower Hamlets, lists the family as "Homeless".
    Living 7 Bridport Rd, Thornton Heath, at son's bapt in Sept 1906. He is "labourer".

    Went back to West Indies, 1921:
    He took family back to the West Indies. They sailed from Dover to Trinidad, departed 21 May 1921, on the Oranje Nassau of the "Royal Netherlands West India Mail". See their departure from here. Lists him as a "seaman". Says the family intend to permanently live in West Indies.
    Looks like went back to Antigua since that is where dau gave birth in Dec 1921.
    Charles and Ada had issue:


    1. Charles Slaven,
      born 9 Oct 1895, St.Luke, Mile End Old Town.
      He died as a baby, 20 or 26 Oct 1895, 145 Bow Common Lane.


    2. Edie Slaven,
      Edith, born 17 Nov 1897, Stepney, NOT 1887 or 1898,
      bapt Edith Mary Elizabeth Slaven, 19 Dec 1897, St James Norlands, Kensington. See bapt entry.
      She sailed to West Indies with family in May 1921. She was already pregnant.
      She mar --- Williams.
      She died 1933. She was bur "Lady Lucia Cemetery" (unidentified), Antigua.
      They had issue:

        born 18 Dec 1921, Antigua.
        She mar Donald Allan Phillip.
        They had issue:

          had issue:

      Daisy Caroline Slaven,
      born Stepney, 10 Jan 1900 [according to bapt entry], or 24 Jan [funeral], NOT 1901,
      bapt 5 Feb 1900, St.Luke, Mile End Old Town, London. See bapt entry.
      She mar 28 Nov 1917 [her age 17, him age 24] to Sylvestre Polius [born 1893, Saint Lucia, West Indies].
      (todo) See mar of Daisy C Slaven and Sylvestre Polius, [GRO.UK], 4th qr 1917, Paddington, 1a 217.
      They married at "St.Mary of the Angels" Catholic church. Said to be in Islington but there is no such church. Marriage registered in Paddington district. This is probably St Mary of the Angels, Bayswater (near Paddington).

      Sylvestre was a sailor.
      He was also a boxer in the East End of London, and used the name "Sam Polo". Daisy became known as "Ma Sam Polo".
      They came to West Indies around 1922. Not listed as sailing with her family in 1921.
      Sylvestre died 4 Jan 1959, Castries, Saint Lucia.
      Daisy died in Saint Lucia, 3 Apr 1992, age 92 yrs, funeral 7 Apr 1992.
      Daisy and Sylvestre had issue:

      1. Mary Teresa Celita Polius, born 1931,
        had issue:

        1. Ronnie Finn.


    4. John Henry Edward Slaven,
      born 31 Dec 1900, 331 Mile End Road,
      bapt 21 Jan 1901, St.Luke, Mile End Old Town, London, see bapt entry.
      He died in infancy, Jan-Mar 1901.

      Not listed in March 1901 census.

    5. Rosina Slaven,
      born 22 Dec 1901,
      died Dec 1903, Kensington.

      died Croydon, 1906, 2nd qr.

    7. Albert Slaven,
      Albert Edward Slaven,
      born 16 Aug 1906 [according to bapt entry], or poss. 23 Aug,
      bapt 30 Sept 1906, Croydon, Holy Saviour, see bapt entry,
      sailed to West Indies with family in May 1921.
