William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas

William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas (see here),
He built Tantallon Castle c.1350.
He had an affair with Margaret Stewart, Countess of Angus [descendant of David I, King of Scotland and of Edmund II (Ironside) and of Charlemagne].
He had illegitimate issue by her:

1. George Douglas, 1st Earl of Angus.

1st Earl of Douglas also had legitimate issue, ancestor of:

William Douglas, 1st Earl of Queensberry.
He mar 1603 to Isabel Kerr [dau of Mark Kerr, 1st Earl of Lothian, of the 1st creation].
He was cr 1633.

1st Earl of Queensberry and his wife are ancestors of:

John Douglas, 9th Marquess of Queensberry, born 1844.
He succ 1858.
He supervised the formulation of the "Queensberry rules" for boxing.
He mar Sibyl Montgomery [descendant of Henry VII, see descent by Ed Mann].
9th Marquess and Sibyl had issue:

1. Lord Alfred Douglas, born 1870.
   Gay lover of Oscar Wilde.
   In 1895, his father called Wilde a sodomite. Wilde stupidly sued him for libel.
   The case ruined Wilde. He ended up charged with homosexual acts (then illegal). Wilde defended "The love that dares not speak its name", but he couldn't change the law and got two years in jail.
