John Thompson.
We need to prove that the Thompson house "Clare Hall" is identical with Claregrove.
One worry is that Claregrove
is some distance N of
Raheny
village,
and is not in Raheny par.
However
[Thom's]
shows that "Raheny" was used for a wide area
N of Raheny parish.
The proof they are the same house follows.
William Thompson is listed at "Clarehall" under Raheny in
[Thom's, 1874, p.1708].
There is no "Claregrove" listed under Raheny
or under Coolock.
William Thompson is listed
as owner of "Claregrove, Coolock"
in [Owners of Land, 1876].
This is good evidence that Claregrove is Clare Hall.
John Thompson is listed at "Clare hall" under Raheny in
[Thom's, 1894, p.1618].
There is no "Claregrove" listed under Raheny
or under Coolock.
"George Cuppage" is listed at "Clare hall" under Raheny in
[Thom's, 1901, p.1664].
The 1901 census provides the best proof that Clare Hall is Claregrove:
The complete entry for Raheny in
[Thom's, 1894, pp.1617-1618].
Shows John Thompson at "Clare hall".
The intro says it is about Raheny parish.
But
it includes a long list of houses that are outside of Raheny parish to the North,
including houses up near Claregrove.
