Michael Crean, barrister, listed at 54 Stephen's Green, east, Dublin, on p.1507 and p.1663 of [Thom's, 1868].

Michael Crean,
born 25 Apr 1838,
of Knockelly, near Fethard, Co.Tipperary.
He joined the Irish Papal Brigade with his relative James J. Kickham. (They were defending the Papal States against Italian nationalists.)
He fought in the defence of Spoleto in Umbria in Sept 1860. He was awarded a Papal medal.
He returned to Ireland and became a barrister.
Moved to Dublin.

Michael mar 20 Aug 1862 to Emma Dunn [born 1 June 1843, Co.Kerry, dau of John Dunn, or Dunne].
They were mar at St.Andrew's church, Dublin, by David Moriarty, Bishop of Kerry.

Her parents owned Morrison's Hotel, 1 Dawson Street (corner of Nassau Street), Dublin.

They lived at her family home, Esker House, Upper Rathmines Road, Dublin. There as at children's births 1863-1864.
Living 54 Stephen's Green, Dublin, at dau's bapt 1866. Listed there in [Thom's, 1868]. Also at the address in 1868 is John Dunn. This might be her father.
Living 12 Herbert Place, Dublin, at son's birth 1870.
Living 21 Upper Pembroke St, Dublin, at son's birth 1872.
Living 7 Upper Pembroke St, Dublin, at dau's birth 1879.
Lived as at 1893 at 69 Lower Leeson St, Dublin. See modern street view. His grandson was born there 1893.
He became Legal Commissioner, Irish Land Commission.
Lived 21 Northbrook Road, Ranelagh, Dublin.
They are listed in 1901 census at Northbrook Road. They have 3 servants and a nurse.
In 1901 census, his dau Emma and husband are with them, but with only one of their children. Probably only visiting.
He seems to have moved in England in 1901-1914.

Michael dies, 1914:
He died at Chelsea, London, 25 Apr 1914, age 76 yrs.
He was bur at St Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Kensal Green, London.
Emma died 6 June 1926, age 83 yrs.
She was bur Ascot, Berkshire.
Michael and Emma had issue:

    mar John Vincent Murphy, no issue,
    lived Lower Leeson St, Dublin,
    he died 1 May 1915,
    she died 13 Apr 1923, age 59 yrs.


  2. Emma Crean,
    Emma Mary Crean, born 8 Oct 1864, Esker House, Rathmines.

    She mar 5 July 1886 to Sir Stephen Quin [Catholic, unionist, Mayor of Limerick] and had issue.


  3. Eleanor Crean,
    Eleanor Mary Crean,
    said to be born Esker House, Rathmines, but bapt address is 54 Stephen's Green,
    bapt 1866 [St.Andrew's RC church, Dublin], sp Thomas Joseph Crean and Clara Crean.
    She mar 1stly, pre-1891, to John Thompson and had issue.
    He must have died.
    She mar 2ndly to Edward Hoare.
    He was a banker, with Hoare's Bank (private bank owned by the Hoare family), London.
    No issue by 2nd mar.
    She died in London, July 1944, age 78 yrs.

    born 29 Sept 1870, 12 Herbert Place, Dublin,

    died as infant, 1871.

    born 6 Feb 1872, Morrison's Hotel, Dublin.

    Major Dr. Thomas Joseph Crean,
    born 19 April 1873, Morrison's Hotel, Dublin.


  7. Frank Crean,
    Francis Joseph Crean, born 6 Mar 1875, Morrison's Hotel, Dublin.
    Studied engineering. Listed as engineering student in 1901 census.
    [Cusack] says he is "C.E." Think this is "Civil Engineer".
    Emigrated to Canada.
    [Cusack] describes him as "explorer in Canada".
    He undertook a survey of Saskatchewan in 1908-09 on behalf of the Canadian Government.
    He mar Josephine Gigot, no issue.
    Think [Cusack] says "Mlle Josephine Gigot".
    He died Dec 1932, age 57 yrs.


  8. Alice Crean,
    Alice Mary Crean, born 15 Feb 1879, 7 Upper Pembroke St, Dublin.
    She mar 1stly, 2 December 1902, to Alexander Todd [born 20 September 1873, English international rugby player] and had issue.
    Alexander was KIA in WWI in 1915.
    Alice mar 2ndly, 12 January 1918, to Hugh Hope Nelson [born 9 June 1886, son of Sir William Nelson, 1st Baronet]. No issue.
    Hugh died 8 June 1937, age 50 yrs.
