William Abbott,
born April 14, 1766, in
Constantinople.
He was
of an English merchant family living for several generations in the Levant.
(English in the male line, but female lines mostly Greek.)
He was uncle of
General Sir James Abbott,
after whom
Abbottabad
is named.
William's father moved to
Ankara around 1768.
His father died 1774.
He was then taken in by his uncle John Abbott, British Consul in
Aleppo.
Educated in England.
Settled in
Madras, India, by 1785.
He mar July 26, 1800 to
Elizabeth Lee [born c.1766].
They mar at
St. Mary's Chapel,
in
Fort St. George, Madras.
He moved to England before 1820.
They had issue:

where his uncle John Lee was in business
and married to Mary Maltass.
He mar 5 September 1825 at Smyrna to Mary Maltass' niece
Helen Maltass [born 8 Aug 1807].
He was a merchant, of Smyrna.
They both witnessed mar of Eugenie Maltass 1839.
Helen received a large inheritance in 1845.
He invested in mines, notably in emery.
Became very wealthy.
He died Sept 15, 1858, in Smyrna, age 55 yrs.
They had issue:
- Helen Louise Abbott.
She mar Charles David van Lennep.
They
had issue:
- Helen Louise Adele van Lennep,
born 1848.
She mar Marcel Theophile Skarbek Habdank Gorkiewicz and had issue.
- Eveline Eugenie Abbott,

and had issue.
