by Shakespeare.
He was a leader of the English army occupying northern France
in the
Hundred Years War.
He began the
Siege of Orleans 1428.
He was killed in the Siege in 1428 (NOT 1421), age 40 yrs.
Title extinct (revived for his son-in-law).
In 1429, the English were defeated and Orleans relieved
in a famous victory
by the French under
Joan of Arc.
This was a
turning point in the Hundred Years War
and the emergence of modern France.
Salisbury
had issue by 1st wife:
- Alice Montagu.
She
mar Richard Neville, 1st Earl of Salisbury
and had issue.
