The Mullins shop, 21 Main St, Cashel, Co.Tipperary.
(Later Spain's and Davern's.)

  
There is an 1824 listing of Cashel businesses on pp.230-231 of [Pigot's Directory, 1824]. There are many businesses on Main St, but no numbers, so we cannot tell if any are 21 Main St.
NIAH says the current building at 21 Main St was built c.1840.
Timothy Kirwan, 21 Main St, is listed under "Public Houses" in Cashel in [Slater's, 1846, Munster, p.167]. No Mullins business listed in the town.

John Mullins (born 1817, by age at death) established his business in 1841.
He moved his business to 21 Main St, Cashel, after 1846.
He is listed at 21 Main St with a wide range of business interests in [Slater's, 1870, Munster, pp.23-24].
His wife Ellen Shelly died here in 1878.

Their daughter Ellen Mullins married Alexander Spain in 1890.
John Mullins died here in 1894.
Alexander Spain and his wife Ellen lived here.
Their son Alec was born here in 1897.
Alexander Spain and his wife are listed here in 1901 census.
They moved to Dublin.

Their son Dr. Alec Spain worked in Dublin.
He retired probably in 1948 and he then bought the old Mullins shop.
He and his wife Eileen O'Mara lived here in the 1950s.
In 1954, Eileen opened an antiques shop next to it.
They moved back to Dublin, but continued to run the Cashel business for a time.

Their daughter Ellen Spain married Raymond Davern.
In 1964, Raymond Davern moved his family business (founded in 1926) here.
It is now Davern's of Cashel, 21 Main St.
There is also Davern's Bar next door, on 20 Main St, which has a different history.
