Ludlow Castle, Shropshire

Ludlow Castle, in Ludlow, Shropshire (on Welsh border).
Inherited by Roger de Mortimer, 1st Earl of March through his marriage in 1301.
It became a Royal property.
It became the seat of the Council of Wales and the Marches. (There are some variants of the name of this council.)

In 1560 Sir Henry Sidney was appointed President of the Council of Wales and the Marches.
He lived here at different times after that. He considerably restored and improved the castle.
He set up a new water supply for the town in 1581.
He died here in 1586.
