Sir Richard Fitzwilliam, Kt,
of Merrion, Co.Dublin.

Constable of Wicklow Castle.
He mar pre-1581 to Jane Preston [descendant of Edward I].
He succ 1592.
He rebuilt Dundrum Castle 1590s.

Death, 1595:
He died at Merrion, 5 Mar 1595.
He was bur at Donnybrook church. Erected the Fitzwilliam tomb, which was in the family chapel attached to the old church.
Jane's will dated at Merrion, Nov 1597.
Sir Richard and Jane had issue:

1. Thomas Fitzwilliam, 1st Viscount Fitzwilliam,
   of Merrion,
   born 1581.
   Said to be age 14 at father's death 1595.

   
   

2. Mary Fitzwilliam.
   She mar 1stly to Matthew Plunkett, 5th Baron Louth and had issue.

   
   

3. William Fitzwilliam,
   of Dundrum.
   He mar 1614 to Mary Smyth.
   He died at Dundrum Castle, 16 July 1616.
   [Ball, vol.2, 1903] references his will.

Extract from pp.10-11 of [Ball, vol.2, 1903].
This says that Sir Richard Fitzwilliam "attended in person a great assembly of the Militia at Tara, accompanied by two armed men".
This must be the general hosting at Tara, 24 Sept 1593.
