Wicklow Castle

Wicklow Castle ("The Black Castle"), at the harbour mouth, Wicklow town.
Was for many years a frontier castle of The Pale.

The original castle was built by Maurice Fitzgerald after 1169.
Re-built by William Fitzwilliam around 1375.
Sir Edward Perrers (fl 1403) was Constable of Wicklow Castle.
Sir Thomas Fitzwilliam (died 1592) was Constable of Wicklow Castle.
Sir Richard Fitzwilliam (died 1595) was Constable of Wicklow Castle.
Sir William Ussher was Constable of Wicklow Castle in 1597.
