This is labelled "Samuel and Kate Anness". But this seems to be based on the error that Samuel's wife was Kate.
This must be Samuel Anness and his wife Mary Ann Skinner.

born 30 Dec 1833, Ipswich, Suffolk.
He is listed in 1851 census as apprentice to James Wick, chemist and druggist, High St, Hadleigh, Suffolk.

He mar 1stly, 1855, to Mary Ann Skinner [born 27 Jan 1834].
He is listed as "Pharmaceutical Chemist" in 1861 and 1871 and 1881 and 1891 census.
They are listed on Westgate St, Ipswich St Matthew, Ipswich (see map) in 1861 census. They have 2 servants.
They are listed at 26 Westgate St, Ipswich, in 1871 census. He is clearly running a business since he has one assistant chemist living with him. They also have 2 domestic servants.
Mary Ann died 1875.

Samuel is listed at 26 Westgate St, Ipswich, in 1881 census. He is widower. He has 2 domestic servants.
He is listed at 26 Westgate St, Ipswich, in 1891 census. He is widower. His son Joseph is assisting him. There is a second chemist's assistant, and 2 domestic servants.
Listed as Chemist, living Ipswich, at 2nd mar.

He mar 2ndly, late in life, 16 Feb 1892, St Saviour's church, Paddington, London,
to Elizabeth Cook [born 1833 or 1834, Ipswich, dau of Thomas Cook, stone mason], no issue.
See mar entry. She was listed at mar as spinster, living St Saviour's parish, London.

Alderman and Mayor of Ipswich:
He became an Alderman of Ipswich.
He was Mayor of Ipswich 1893-94.
They are listed at Glenhurst, London Rd, St.Matthew's parish, Ipswich, in 1901 census. He is "Retired Drug Chemist". They have 2 servants.
Listed as an Alderman of Ipswich council on p.139 of [The Municipal Year Book of the UK, 1907].
Listed as an Alderman of Ipswich council in [The Municipal Year Book of the UK, 1908]. Living London Rd, Ipswich.
See item in The Chemist and Druggist, 16 Oct 1909, p.604. He is "Ph.C." (pharmaceutical chemist). Living Glenhurst, London Rd.
They are listed at 15 London Rd, Ipswich, in 1911 census. He is "Retired Chemist". They have 3 servants. House has 11 rooms.
He is listed as living Glenhurst, London Rd, in [The calendar of the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, 1912].
She died c. early 1912.

    He is listed at 32 Berners St, Ipswich, under physicians and surgeons in [1896 Kelly's Directory].
    He is listed as "surgeon" at mar, living London.
    He mar 12 Jan 1901, St Ann's church, Lambeth, London, see entry, to Mary Isabel Lewis [born 1873, dau of Rev. Gerrard Lewis].
    He is listed as "deputy medical officer" at father's probate 1916.
    He is listed at 98 Dover Rd, Folkestone, Kent, in medical list in [1922 Kelly's Directory].
    Living at death at 1 Seaview Villas, Wear Bay Crescent, Folkestone, Kent.
    He died 5 Jan 1927.

    Probate granted 31 Jan 1927.

    She was living 1947 at 70 Guildhall St, Folkestone, Kent.
    Living 4 Wear Bay Crescent, Folkestone, at death.
    She died 25 Apr 1956, Harefield Hospital, Harefield, Greater London.
    Probate granted 2 July 1956.
    They had issue:

    1. Isabel Anness,
      Isabella, born 2 Dec 1901, Thetford, Norfolk,
      mar Aug 1927, Kent, to Cecil Richard Trippett [born 12 Feb 1900],
      he was civil servant,
      she died c.Sept 1977, Canterbury, Kent,

    went to South Africa,
    died 17 Dec 1898, age 37 yrs,
    bur Beaufort West, Karoo, Western Cape, South Africa.
    Veronica Bryan-Smith notes a Joseph Anness, farmer, but it is unclear this is him.


  5. Ellen Anness,
    Ellen Gertrude Anness, bapt 23 July 1868, St Matthew, Ipswich,
    "Gertrude" on Baldry family tree,
    at home in 1881 census,
    mar 1900 to Frank Hinton Bryan-Smith [born 1872] and had issue,
    probate of father's estate 1916 granted to her and brother Frederick,
    he died 13 Aug 1949,
    she died 11 July 1960.


  6. Possibly another child, Wilfred George Anness.

Clearly same woman as above. This is labelled "Kate Anness".
But this seems to be based on the error that Samuel's wife was Kate. So this must be Mary Ann Skinner.
