Flimby, Cumberland

The Manor of Flimby, on the coast of Cumberland (Cumbria).
The Manor of Flimby was purchased by patent roll dated 1546 by Joan Blennerhassett, widow, and Thomas Blennerhassett.
It was thought she might be the widow of John Blennerhassett, but there are problems with this. See discussion.
See the family of Blennerhassett of Flimby.

In any case, Flimby became the seat of Thomas Blennerhassett.
He was granted lands in Ireland in 1590.
He went to Ireland for some time, but eventually returned to England. His son settled in Ireland.

William Blennerhassett succeeded to Flimby in 1765.
He built the new Flimby Hall (the current building) in 1766. It has initials "W.B." and date 1766.
William Blennerhassett sold it out of the family in 1772.

It is now Flimby Hall farm.
