Our family

Our family starts with John Carmody of Liscahane:

• John Carmody,
  of Liscahane, Ardfert par (between Ardfert and Tralee), Co.Kerry.
  There is no Carmody at Liscahane in [Tithe Survey, 1823].
  Apparently came to Liscahane in 1823:
  John Carmody leased land at Liscahane starting in 1823 [Valuation Office books].
  He is listed in [Valuation Office books, 1848] as holding 24 acres at Liscahane, leasing from Sir Edward Denny, 4th Baronet.
  John Carmody is listed at Liscahane in [Griffiths Valuation, 1853]. He holds 47 acres, with a modest house. Leasing from Sir Edward Denny, 4th Baronet.
  He had issue:

  
  

  1. Nora Carmody,
     Honora, Hanna,
     "Nora" in most records,
     "Norah" on grave,
     born Co.Kerry,
     born 1831 [by age in 1901 census].
     Death cert implies born 1845 but that is impossible since child bapt 1852.
     She is my mitochondrial DNA ancestor.
     She mar pre-1852 to John O'Callaghan [bapt 28 June 1827] and had issue.

     
     

  2. Jeremiah Carmody,
     born 1831 (by 1911 census) or 1841 (by 1901 census), Co.Kerry.
     Jeremiah Carmody of Liscahane listed as brother of Nora at her funeral 1909.

The plot numbers do not remotely match the plot numbers in the text of [Griffiths Valuation, 1853].
So we cannot say where plot 14 is.

Probably identical with

Our family is probably identical with the following.
This is the only John Carmody we can find at Liscahane.
But gaps in Ardfert parish records mean we cannot confirm this.

• John Carmody.
  He mar Hannah Griffin.
  She may be my mitochondrial DNA ancestor.
  Listed at Liscahane at son's bapt 1835.
  They had issue:
  1. John Carmody,
     bapt 7 June 1835 [Ardfert RC par records].
     See baptism image from here.
     Fairly illegible. Transcript thinks mother is "Hannah" in Latin.
     Note Jeremiah Carmody's eldest dau is called Joanna. Perhaps after her grandmother.

There is no Carmody at Liscahane in [Tithe Survey, 1823].
There is a Daniel Griffin, holding 49 acres, "in two lots, one of which bounds the Commons (North)".

This may be where our Carmody got their farm, if they married into Griffin.
There are Griffins at Liscahane in [Griffiths Valuation, 1853].
