Pedigree of Conway dated 1791.
Claims to show descent of Conway of Cloghane
from
Sir Fulke Conway.
Note that
[Smith, 1756]
also thought that Conway of Cloghane
were closely connected to
Sir Fulke Conway.
Introduction to pedigree of Conway dated 1791.

Reply to Rowan.

The

actually leads to the 20 Feb issue.
From the following reply, we can detect that Hickson disputes the descent of Conway of Cloghane.
Says Sir Fulke Conway had no son.

Reply to Hickson.
-
24 Feb 1897
by Hickson.
Hickson suggests the Conway of Cloghane descent is false,
and is a later addition to the 1791 pedigree.

More on how the Conway of Cloghane descent is probably false.
-
6 Mar 1897
by Rowan.
Defends the Conway of Cloghane descent.
She also has a letter of 1774 making claims about the Conway pedigree.
These claims are rather vague.
Extract of the 1774 letter
published by Anne Margaret Rowan
on
6 Mar 1897.
This claims that
Jenkin Conway the younger
was 1st cousin of "Lord Conway"
(one of the Viscounts Conway).
This pedigree is vague.
Notes
by Anne Margaret Rowan
on
6 Mar 1897.
She tries to figure out who is the ancestor of Jenkin Conway of Killorglin.
-
10 Mar 1897
by Hickson.
Says the 1774 letter lacks evidence.

Looks at the Conway pedigree.
She goes with the
"Black Jack's Book"
descent for Jenkin Conway of Kerry (through Piers Conwy).
She says a correspondent has visited the PRO and found clear evidence that Sir Fulke Conway had no son.
-
31 Mar 1897.
Both Rowan and Hickson.
Rowan agrees that Sir Fulke Conway apparently had no son, so there is a problem in her descent.
She discusses Capt. Jenkin's possible ancestry.
Hickson writes more on Conway of Cloghane and Sir Fulke Conway.
She says the origin of Conway of Cloghane is unproved.
-
3 Apr 1897
by Hickson.
Hickson has the
Visitation of Warwickshire of 1619.
She says this proves Rowan's pedigrees of 1774 and 1791 are wrong.
Note Hickson is wrong
to think Black Jack's mother died in 1663.
This should be 1683.
-
10 Apr 1897
by Hickson.
She outlines the pedigree of Conway of Arrow
on
pp.26-27 of
Visitation of Warwickshire of 1619.
She refutes any
descent of Conway of Cloghane from Sir Fulke Conway.
She suggests Conway of Cloghane are no relation at all of Sir Fulke Conway and his brother the 1st Viscount Conway,
or at best, only very distant ones.
-
14 Apr 1897
by Hickson.
She gives details of the marriage and life of
Elizabeth Roe and James Conway
of Cloghane
in the 1630s.
This article incorrectly says the last article was
7 Apr 1897.
There was no article on that date.
-
21 Apr 1897
by Hickson.
Sums up all the evidence against Rowan's theory of the origin of Conway of Cloghane.
Shows the true origin of Conway of Cloghane in Co.Dublin.
No apparent relation of Conway of Wales or Warwickshire.

"Kerry Notes".
They are starting a series of reprints of
"Old Kerry Records"
by the late
Mary Agnes Hickson (died 1899),
which originally appeared in the Kerry Evening Post in the 1870s.
It is not clear if these appeared in print in the
Old Kerry Records
volumes or not.

This shows the old theory of connection of Conway of Cloghane to Sir Fulke Conway
that is found in [Smith, 1756].
Hickson rejects this theory in 1897 above.
But it seems she accepted it at first from Smith.
(Recall these notes are apparently from the 1870s.)
From
p.53
of
[Smith, 1756].
Smith thought that Conway of Cloghane
were closely connected to
Sir Fulke Conway.

Conway notes
by Anne Margaret Rowan.
From Kerry Evening Post,
23 May 1908, p.3.
She has a descent of Capt. Jenkin Conway
from Edward Conwy of Arrow.
And she has a descent of
Conway of Dublin and Cloghane
from Edward's brother John Conwy of Bodrhyddan.
This is what was originally in
[Hickson, 1874].
But it takes no account of the 1897 discusson, which seems to prove both of these lines wrong.
