Edward Despenser, 1st Baron Despenser



Edward Despenser, 1st Baron Despenser (far LHS, behind the angel) and his wife Elizabeth de Burghersh (far RHS, behind the angel).

Edward Despenser, 1st Baron Despenser,
born 24 March 1336.

He fought with The Black Prince at the Battle of Poitiers in 1356.
He was summoned to Parliament as a Baron in 1357.
He mar Elizabeth de Burghersh [dau of Bartholomew de Burghersh, 2nd Baron Burghersh].
He died 11 November 1375.
In his memory his widow Elizabeth erected the beautiful chantry at Tewkesbury Abbey, Gloucestershire.
They had issue:


  1. Margaret le Despenser.
    She mar Robert de Ferrers, 5th Baron Ferrers of Chartley and had issue.


  2. Elizabeth le Despenser, born 1365.
    She mar John Arundel and had issue.


  3. Thomas Despenser, 1st Earl of Gloucester,
    born 1373.
