He mar Mary de Quincy.
High Sheriff of Berkshire.
He died 1238.
Hugh and Mary had issue:


Hugh Despenser,
born 1223.

He mar Aline Basset [dau of Philip Basset].
Justiciar of England in 1260.
He was killed at the Battle of Evesham, Worcestershire, 4 August 1265.
Hugh and Aline had issue:


Hugh Despenser the Elder,
1st Earl of Winchester,
born 1 March 1261.

He mar Isabella de Beauchamp [descendant of Aoife Mac Murrough and of Charlemagne].
He became chief adviser to Edward II.
His son was a favourite of the king, and possibly his lover.
Created Earl of Winchester 1322.
He was captured by the forces opposing Edward II at the Siege of Bristol in Oct 1326.
He was hanged and beheaded on 27 October 1326, at Bristol, age 65 yrs.
After execution his body was cut into pieces and fed to dogs.
Title attainted.
His son was also soon executed.

    1st Baron Despenser, born c.1287/1289.
