Ratcliffe Gerard,
of Halsall, Lancashire.
He mar Elizabeth Somerset [born est c.1572, descendant of Edward III].
He died. She re-married.
She died 1609.
She was bur with parents in St.James' church, Bristol.
Ratcliffe and Elizabeth had issue:

1. Sir Charles Gerard, Kt,
   born est c.1590,
   of Halsall, Lancashire.
   He mar 1612 [new style year] to Penelope Fitton [descendant of Edward III].
   Mar licence dated 3 Jan 1612 [at the time regarded as the end of 1611].
   Knighted by James I on 12 Aug 1617.
   They had issue:

   
   

   1. Charles Gerard, 1st Earl of Macclesfield,
      born c.1618.

On 12 Aug 1617, James I visited Ashton Hall, a mansion of Thomas Gerard, 1st Baron Gerard.
He knighted his nephew Charles Gerard.
