Humphreys' pub, Ranelagh, Dublin

Humphreys' pub in Ranelagh.
From Google Street View.

What later became Humphreys' pub was originally 12 and 13 Cullenswood, Ranelagh, Dublin.

[Thoms, 1860, p.445] lists John Nolan, provision and spirit dealer, 12 and 13 Cullenswood, Ranelagh.

The street name changed in 1860-68 to "Elm Grove" (or Elmgrove). Elmgrove was the name of a stretch of the Ranelagh road.
The pub address became 12 and 13 Elm Grove, Ranelagh.
[Thoms, 1868, p.1601] lists Eliza Nolan, provision and spirit dealer, 12 and 13 Elm Grove, Ranelagh.

Tim Humphreys took over the pub in Ranelagh, probably 1910.
The pub is house 13 in 1911 census (see James Culleton in both censuses).
Tim is at his mother's house in Co.Limerick in 1911 census but this was only temporary. He was soon living at his new pub in Ranelagh.
Tim Humphreys' pub is listed at 12 and 13 Elm Grove, Ranelagh, in [Thoms] 1912 on.

The pub was re-numbered in 1932-33 as 79 and 81 Ranelagh, Dublin.
Tim died 1954.
His widow Molly Reilly then ran the pub.
When she died in 1970, she left the pub to her nephew Sean Harrington.
Sean Harrington died 1997.

It is still called Humphreys' pub today. Still owned by Harrington family.
Address is 79 and 81 Ranelagh.
See facebook.

Location of the pub on 1829 to 1842 map.
The pub location is in the row of shops/houses above the "Nursery".
It would be in the LHS part of the row. Not quite opposite Sally Mount (modern Sallymount Ave).
The pub is in Cullenswood townland.

Cullenswood, Ranelagh, in [Pettigrew and Oulton, 1845, p.823].
The numbering is different to that in [Thoms, 1850] and later.
We can match some things:

But we cannot identify the pub.

The earliest clear identification of the pub:
Cullenswood, Ranelagh, in [Thoms, 1850, p.870].
The numbering is consistent after this for many years, though the street name changes to "Elm Grove".
The future Humphreys' pub is 12 and 13 Cullenswood.

Think the date "1910" is the date he set up pub in Ranelagh rather than date of price list.

The window of Humphreys' pub says "Est. 1910".
This was when Humphreys came to the pub rather than when the pub itself started, which was much earlier.
