John Lyons of Mallow

This looked interesting but may be nothing.
Our Lyons family is apparently of Mallow, Co.Cork.
Below we appeared to have a John Lyons of Mallow as ancestor of someone who DNA matches someone in our family.

But there are major problems with this:

We are looking at John Lyons, born June 1829, Mallow.
According to Sue Lyons (below), he is the John Lyons who was living in 1880 in McGregor, Iowa. That makes him her ancestor and she is a DNA match for someone in our family.
However, according to Findagrave, he is the John Lyons who was living in 1880 in Horicon, Wisconsin. A totally different person. So his family does not DNA match our family.
The question is where does the information about Mallow come from? Sue Lyons says John Lyons of Iowa was born June 1829 in Mallow. It seems the June 1829 date is wrong, because that is the birth date for John Lyons of Wisconsin as given in the 1900 census. But could the Mallow place still be right for John Lyons of Iowa? What is the source for Mallow?
Mallow baptisms for 1829 are lost.
There is a John Lyons, bapt Mallow, 9 Jan 1827, son of John Lyons and Mary Rourke, of Rahan, Rahan parish, E of Mallow.
Even if the John Lyons of Iowa was born in Mallow, it may not mean anything. The DNA match of one of his descendants to one of our family may not come through the Lyons line.

From Findagrave can be constructed the family of John Lyons of Wisconsin:

He was born June 1829, Ireland [1900 census].
He was born Mallow, Co.Cork [according to Findagrave, source for this unknown].

He emigrated to USA.
He mar pre-1856 to Mary O'Neill [or Marie Neil, born 1836, Co.Cork].
Living Vermont in 1856.
Living Wisconsin by 1857.
See them listed in 1860 census in Hubbard, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
See them listed in 1870 census in Hubbard.
See them listed in 1880 census in Horicon, Wisconsin. Written as "Lyon". Though grave and other records have "Lyons".
She died 1899, Horicon, Wisconsin. See Findagrave.
See him listed in 1900 census in Horicon. He is a widower.
He died 24 Apr 1903, Horicon, Wisconsin. See Findagrave.
They had issue:
1. John Lyons, born 1856, Vermont.
2. Eugene Lyons, born 1857, Wisconsin. Age 3 in 1860 census.
3. Michael Lyons, born 1859, Wisconsin. Age 1 in 1860 census.
4. Jane Lyons, born Wisconsin, 1860 [1880 census] or 1861 [1870 census].
  She would be "Jennie Lyons" that 1900 census says was born May 1863.
5. Bridget Lyons, born 1863, Wisconsin.
  1900 census says born Jan 1865. Must be born Jan 1863.
6. Mary Lyons, born 1866, Wisconsin.
7. Patrick Lyons,
  Patrick Henry Lyons, born Wisconsin,
  must be born Sept 1869 [1900 census says born Sept 1870, but he is age 1 in 1870 census].
  He mar 1899-1900 to Alice Prefontaine [or Allice] and had issue.
  They are living with his father in 1900 census.
  He died 5 Sept 1943. See Findagrave.
8. Frank Lyons, born 1871, Wisconsin.
9. William Lyons, born June 1873, Wisconsin.

John Lyons of Iowa

From Sue Lyons' tree can be constructed the family of John Lyons of Iowa:

He was born 1830, Ireland [1870 and 1880 census].
See entry in tree by Sue Lyons. This confuses him with John Lyons of Wisconsin.
Sue Lyons thinks he was born 18 June 1829, Mallow, Co.Cork. But "June 1829" must come from John Lyons of Wisconsin.
"Mallow" may be correct but source for this is unknown.
Thomas Robert Lyons (below) always said the family was from Co.Cork.

She was born 1835 [1870 census] or May 1836 [1900 census].
They were living Ohio in 1858.
Living Tennessee in 1860.
Living Iowa 1862 on.
They lived in McGregor, Iowa (on Wisconsin border). There in at least 1870-1880.
They are listed in 1870 census at McGregor, Iowa. He is a labourer.
They are listed in 1880 census at McGregor, Iowa. He is a railroad labourer. Mary is illiterate.
John died 1880-1900.
Mary is listed in 1900 census at Mendon, Iowa. She is widow.
They had issue:
1. Anna Lyons, born 1858, Ohio.
2. Bridget Lyons, born 1860, Tennessee.
3. Lizzie Lyons, born March 1861.
  Strangely not listed in 1870 or 1880 census. Listed in 1900 census.
  Also strange is that 1900 census says born Canada.
4. Dennis Lyons, born 1862, Iowa.
5. Mary Lyons, born 1864 or 1865, Iowa.
6. Julia Lyons, born 1869, Iowa [1870 census].
  1900 census says born May 1871 but that is false.
7. John Joseph Lyons,
  born 1 Oct 1871, McGregor, Iowa.
  He mar 1stly to Ethel Rand.
  He moved 1912 to Mason City, Iowa.
  He mar 2ndly, pre-1919, to Beatrice Angier [born 10 May 1897].
  Her mother married Gill when she was a child and she became Beatrice Angier Gill.
  John and Beatrice lived Mason City, Iowa. There in 1919.
  They are listed in 1920 census at Mason City.
  Beatrice is listed with her widowed mother in 1930 census. Listed as married. Possibly separated.
  She was living 1940 in Tucson, Arizona.
  1940 census says she is a widow. But this is not true. Must be separated.
  She was living 1947 in Livermore, California.
  John made a Social Security Application in 1950.
  He died 1962, Mason City, Iowa.
  See obituary posted here. Says his wife is dead. His 1st wife would be, but his 2nd wife is not.
  Beatrice died 1974. See grave.
  John had issue by 2nd wife:
  1. Thomas Robert Lyons,
    born 20 Sept 1919, Mason City, Iowa.
    Living 1940 in Tucson, Arizona.
    He mar 1947 to Margil Duffey [born 1928].
    Her mother married Anderson when she was a child and she became Margil Anderson.
    Thomas and Margil lived Albuquerque, New Mexico.
    He died 1989. See grave.
    They had issue:
    1. Sue Lyons.

Andrew Lyons,
Andrew Oliver Lyons, born 14 July 1827, Co.Cork.
A noted architect. See biography.
He mar Frances Margaret ---- [born 1828, Co.Galway].
They were Church of Ireland.
County surveyor for the northern division of the East Riding of Co. Cork, 1862-1898.
Listed as of Main St, Mallow, and "County Surveyor for the East Riding" in [Slater's Directory, 1870].
Lived at Short Castle (or Shortcastle), Mallow.
See them listed at Short Castle in 1901 census.

He died at Short Castle, 27 February 1902, age 74 yrs.
He was bur Killeens Cemetery, Mallow.

The site became known as Lyons Corner.

Thomas Lyons, grocer, confectioner, vintners, Castle St, listed in [Guy's Directory, 1886].
Later the business became Lyons and Browne (or Brown).
Listed as Lyons and Browne, grocers and spirit dealers, in [Kelly's Directory of Ireland, 1905].

See entry in 1911 census. This lists him as "general labourer", illiterate. Hard to see how could be shopkeeper if illiterate. Yet is same address as 1905 directory entry.
