Very Rev. Louis Nolan



Very Rev. Louis Nolan,
prominent cleric in Rome,
born Cornelius Nolan, 29 May 1878.
O.P. (Dominican) priest, ordained in Rome in 1906.
B.A., S.T.M.
He spent most of his life in Rome.
Assistant-General of the Dominican Order in Rome, 1920-29.
[Michael Nolan letter, 1970] says he was at one time named to be Bishop of Limerick "but declined the offer". If true this must be in 1923.
Bursar-General of the Dominican Order from 1931.
He was appointed in 1939 by Pope Pius XI as Consultor of the Congregation of the Propaganda.
Author of several works.
Provincial of the Dominican Order in Malta.
He died Apr 1944, age 65 yrs.
He was bur 24 Apr 1944, beneath the High Altar in the Church of Our Lady of the Grotto, in Rabat, Malta (see map).

He received Papal Cross for bravery, postmortem, for his actions during the Siege of Malta (1940-42).
