McFarlane
Colin McFarlane,
born 1851 in South Australia.
He mar 1893 to
Maud Evans
[born 1867 in South Australia].
According to familysearch.org,
Maud Evans
descends through Evans and Cheetham from
Alexander Cheetham (married in 1776 in Rochdale, Lancashire).
Colin and Maud had issue:
-
Winifred McFarlane,
Winifred Mary McFarlane, born 25 Oct 1897, South Australia.
She mar 1stly, 1916, to
Collis Carpenter
[Vere Collis Nugent Carpenter, born 1 Sept 1885]
and had issue in Australia.
In 1925 she left her husband and children in Australia
and went to Ceylon
with a young man
called Thomas Ryan.
"The Register" (Adelaide),
30 July 1925, says they went to Ceylon in early 1925.
"The News" (Adelaide),
21 Oct 1925, implies they were lovers.
Ryan was convicted of a fraud in 1925 and jailed.
Winifred travelled to Britain and met Blennerhassett.
She mar 2ndly, 1926, to
Sir Marmaduke Blennerhassett, 6th Baronet
[born 20 Nov 1902].
No issue.
The marriage was bigamous.
Incredibly, she married him under a fake name,
"Wynne M. Seaton-Roberts".
Her real name and the bigamy were soon discovered.
Marriage annulled 1927.
Incredibly, Winifred McFarlane
used a fake name, "Wynne M. Seaton-Roberts",
in the
[GRO.UK]
at her marriage to Blennerhassett in 1926.
She was already married, with a husband and children in Australia.

Possible Royal Descent for Winifred McFarlane
Lyn Hamblin (descendant of Winifred McFarlane)
says that Winifred's ancestor Alexander Cheetham (married in 1776 in Rochdale, Lancashire) descends from
Peter Seddon of Prestolee, Lancashire
(will proved 1664, husband of Ellen Seddon).
Peter Seddon descends through his mother Mary Foxe from
William Parr, 1st Baron Parr of Horton,
descendant of
Edward III.
Lyn Hamblin
gives the descent of Cheetham from Seddon as:
"Mary Foxe - Peter Seddon - Peter Seddon - Robert Seddon - Thomas Seddon - Ann Seddon - John Cheetham - Alexander Cheetham".
There is a problem with this though.
The tree below shows Anne Seddon (bapt 1723)
marrying William Yates, not Cheetham.

Ann Seddon and Thomas Cheatham
This is probably the origin of the claimed Cheetham-Seddon descent.
The marriage of an
Ann Seddon and Thomas Cheatham,
29 July 1729, Eccles, Lancashire.
Bishop's Transcripts for
Eccles.
From
here.
This is probably the origin of the claimed Cheetham-Seddon descent.
However this is too early to be the Anne Seddon (bapt 1723) above.
This is a different Seddon family.
Baptism of John Cheatham in Eccles, Lancashire (same parish as above),
son of Thomas Cheatham of Swinton.
Baptised 24 Jan 1731 (new style year).
Eccles parish records.
From here.
John may be son of Ann Seddon and Thomas Cheatham,
but this requires proof.
Whether he is father of Alexander also requires proof.
- Inaccurate Ancestry tree:
-
An Ancestry user called
"zbennett15"
has a tree that lists
Ann Sedden,
who married 1729 to
Thomas Cheetham.
But their origin for Ann Sedden is clearly inaccurate.
- Their tree
claims
Ann Sedden is dau of Thomas Seddon
and Margaret Berry.
- However Wikitree shows Thomas Seddon
as marrying Margaret Berry in 1714.
So it is impossible that their daughter marries in 1729.
Ann Sedden must have a different origin.
- The Ancestry tree is not credible anyway.
It has over 15,000 people and does not have any sources.
It gives Thomas Seddon
and Margaret Berry an obviously false 37 children, born in different places,
some born up to 14 years before parents' marriage.
It is clearly throwing lots of unrelated Seddons of Lancashire together.
- Conclusion: The origin of Ann Seddon who married Thomas Cheatham is unknown.
