George Cashel of Tralee

There are many entries for a George Cashel or George Cashell of Tralee.
There seem to be multiple families.

• George Cashell, of Tralee.
  His will pr 1760.
  Will would be burnt in 1922.

  
  

• George Cashel, senior,
  or Cashell, born 1769.
  Described as "formerly for many years a resident in this town" (i.e. Tralee) in Kerry Evening Post at his death in 1834.
  He is probably "George Cashell, senior" listed in Co.Kerry freeholders in [Belfast Newsletter, 19 July 1799, p.3].
  Listed as living Dunkerron Castle, Templenoe par, just W of Kenmare, in 1814 Directory.
  Referred to as demolishing antiquities at Dunkerron in [Lyne and Moriarty, 1984].
  He or his son must be George Cashell of Kenmare listed as a Magistrate of Co.Kerry in Official Authorities, County Kerry, 1834. (Note this version has formatting problems.)
  He died Kenmare, Co.Kerry, 13 Mar 1834, age 65 yrs [Limerick Chronicle, 22 Mar 1834], [Kerry Evening Post, Wed 19 Mar 1834, [BL.NL] M 21845].
  He was bur Killowen, Kenmare par, just E of Kenmare. See findagrave.
  He had issue:
  1. George Cashel.
     His existence implied by the use of "senior".
     George Cashel, Marine Lodge, Kenmare, Co. Kerry, was Executor of will dated 1834 of George Cashel, proved in Ardfert Diocese.

This lists "Long George Cashel" as one of the characters of Tralee at the end of the 18th century.

"old George Cashel" and "young George Cashel".
Item in The Kerry Magazine, vol.3, 1856, p.128.
This refers to the racehorse Governor, from the Tralee of around 1786.
It was purchased from "old George Cashel for 50 pounds a year, terminable on the life of the present young George Cashel".

Natural child of George Cashel, junior

The following natural child of "George Cashel, junior" (unidentified), baptised in 1796 in Tralee, is interesting.
Could there be other Cashel natural children?

Francis Cashel, the natural son of George Cashel, junior, of Tralee parish, was bapt 7 Apr 1796 [Tralee CoI par records].
No mother listed.

  renting from Lord Ventry.

  mar in Tralee, 1840, to Miss O'Sullivan
  [Limerick Chronicle, 17th June 1840], (todo) see original.

• Margaret Cashell, mar Edmond Archer and had issue:
  1. William Archer, born 10th Apr 1864, Tralee, (todo) see [GROI] entry.
  2. Anne Archer, born 2nd Apr 1866, Tralee (todo) see [GROI] entry.

• Francis Cashel, mar Honoria Flaherty and had issue:
  1. Honoria Cashel, born 8th June 1866, Tralee, (todo) see [GROI] entry.

• Francis Cashel, mar Catherine Buckley and had issue:
  1. Johana Cashel, born 10th June 1866, Tralee, (todo) see [GROI] entry.

• O'Brennan Cemetery, near Ballyseedy, Tralee, has grave erected by Catherine Kelly in memory of her daughter Mary Cashel who died May 18--.

Strand St, Tralee

• George Cashel,
  or Cashell, NOT Cashil.
  He mar 23 Jan 1828 to Ellen Casey [of Tralee, born 1803].
  They mar at Tralee RC church. Mar wit by Maurice Collins and Robert O'Casey.
  George must have died pre-1852.
  She is Ellen Cashel who is listed in [Griffiths Valuation, 1851-1852] as occupying 33 Strand St, Tralee. Renting it from landlord William Sandes. Strand St is on W side of Tralee.
  Ellen is described as widow, of Strand St, at death [NAI].
  Her will dated 20 May 1878. Copy in Irish wills register, pp.284-285.
  Ellen dies, 1878:
  She died 16 June 1878, at Strand St, age 75 yrs.
  Her will says she wants to be bur in the new cemetery at Tralee. But [O'Kief] says she was bur Tralee old cemetery.
  Will pr 11 Sept 1878 at Principal Registry, Dublin [NAI].
  George and Ellen had issue:

     or Cashel.
     He mar Bridget Eagan.
     He is cooper, living Strand St, Tralee, as at son's birth 1875.
     Mother's will 1878 lists him as a cooper, of Tralee.
     George and Bridget had issue:
     1. Robert Edward Cashell,
        born 12 Feb 1875, Strand St, Tralee [GROI].
        He died 1876, Tralee district, age 1 yr. (todo) See [GROI] entry, vol.10 p.502.

     
     

  2. Sally Cashel,
     Sarah, of Tralee.
     Also written Cashell.
     She mar 10 Feb 1861 to Thomas Stephens [of Tralee, son of Robert Stephens].
     They mar at [Tralee RC church].
     Both alive as at 1878.
     They had issue:
     1. Thomas Stephens,
        born 2 Oct 1863,
        bapt 4 Oct 1863, Abbeydorney RC church, Co.Kerry, sp George Cashell and Mary Brien. See transcript.

  3. Catherine Cashel, born 1838.
     She mar 1stly to --- Collins.
     He died pre-1878.
     Mother's will 1878 lists her as Catherine Collins, widow.
     At 2nd mar 1878 she is described as housekeeper, of Strand St, Tralee. She is age 40.
     She mar 2ndly, 30 July 1878, to John Fitzgerald [born 1828, son of Garrett Fitzgerald, or Gerald].
     At mar he is age 50, widower. He is butcher, Abbey St, Tralee.
     They mar at Tralee RC church. See entry. And here.

     
     

  4. Mary Cashel.
     She mar --- Moloney.
     Mother's will 1878 lists her as Mary Moloney, widow, now in America.

  5. Thomas Cashel.
     Mother's will 1878 lists him as now in America, and leaves him "one shilling and no more".

     
     Ellen's will 1878 also lists a grandson "Patrick Kennelly".
