DISC v. everyone
DNA testing - disconnected Blennerhassett lines.
For background see
DNA testing for the Blennerhassett problem.
As part of the testing, we gathered some disconnected Blennerhassett lines.
There are some interesting hits,
but it still remains unclear how these connect to anybody else.
Groups
We compare individuals from the
groups defined here.
This page will compare:
- DISC v DISC
- DISC v DAU
- DISC v LETITIA
- DISC v CASH
We start by considering total segment matches, using minimum segment size = 9 cM.
9 cM is generally considered significant.
DISC versus DISC
Here are the disconnected Blennerhassetts crossed with each other.
- JOHN 1, 2, 3 really are known that closely related.
- MCA 1, 3, 2 really are known that closely related.
DISC versus CASH
We compare our family with the disconnected Blennerhassetts.
CASH match with MCA
- We do not know where the MCA branch fits.
This is the
McAdoo-Blennerhassett branch.
-
We do not know for sure that this is through the Blennerhassett line.
However it looks good, because we did not have a prior bias (as we did when searching Ancestry DNA hits for Blennerhassett).
In this case, a member of this disconnected branch contacted me, telling me they had DNA,
with no expectation of a match.
And there was a match.
It still does not tell us where the MCA branch fits.
CASH match with JOHN
- We do not know where the JOHN branch fits.
This is the family of
John Blennerhassett of Tralee.
-
We found this family by searching our tens of thousands of Ancestry DNA hits for Blennerhassett.
There was bound to be some hit.
It did not mean the DNA match is in the Blennerhassett line.
- However, below we have an interesting finding that JOHN
matches both CASH and ED.
-
This indicates that the match is
in the Blennerhassett line.
-
And it indicates that CASH and ED may be related.
- It still does not tell us where the JOHN branch fits.
DISC versus DAU
We compare the disconnected Blennerhassetts
with the family of the Blennerhassett Baronets.
There is no match above 9 cM.
DISC versus LETITIA
We compare the disconnected Blennerhassetts
with the family of Letitia Blennerhassett of Tarbert.
- We have a match of JOHN with ED.
- This is evidence that the unknown, disconnected JOHN branch is somehow connected to
Edward Blennerhassett of Rossbeigh.
- Above we found that JOHN matches CASH.
-
This indicates that JOHN matches ED and CASH
in the Blennerhassett line.
-
And it indicates that ED and CASH may be related.
- It still does not tell us where the JOHN branch fits.
Let us try (as some sites do)
reducing the minimum segment size and looking at total segment matches.
Here is total segment matches using minimum segment size = 7 cM.
DISC versus DISC
DISC versus CASH
CASH is looking really related to JOHN and MCA.
- This metric makes CASH look closer to JOHN.
- This metric makes CASH look a lot closer to MCA.
People from all parts of the CASH tree are matching with MCA.
This strongly suggests the match is through Blennerhassett.
DISC versus DAU
Under this metric, we finally get borderline matches with DAU.
- We have a borderline match of JOHN with YIELD as well as BART.
And a borderline match with BUTLER (who descend from YIELD).
- This
would suggest JOHN descends from
Robert Blennerhassett
and his wife Frances Yielding.
- We have a borderline match of MCA with YIELD.
- But these matches are pretty weak.
DISC versus LETITIA
- ED matches JOHN.
- And with this metric, there emerge borderline matches of MCA with REV and GOD.
-
Only people descended from the REV branch should be related to GOD.
- Above we saw MCA matches CASH.
- MCA looks (weakly) descended from the REV branch and
(more strongly) related to CASH.
We now take a wider look at the data by showing for every match, what is the largest segment.
Largest single segment in match, in cM.
Small segments can happen by chance. Large segments much less so.
DISC versus DISC
DISC versus CASH
- CASH matches JOHN.
- CASH matches MCA.
DISC versus DAU
- JOHN borderline matches YIELD/BUTLER and BART.
DISC versus LETITIA
- JOHN matches ED.
- MCA borderline matches REV and GOD.
If there is a segment over 5 cM,
Gedmatch
estimates the number of generations to Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA).
This is an estimate from the DNA, not from the family tree.
Gedmatch can give different estimates depending on the minimum segment length you pick.
We use the closest estimate, which is the estimate given under minimum segment 5 cM.
DISC versus DISC
DISC versus CASH
These seem DNA-proven:
- CASH link to MCA.
- CASH link to JOHN.
DISC versus DAU
This seems borderline:
- JOHN link to YIELD/BUTLER and BART.
DISC versus LETITIA
This seems DNA-proven:
This seems borderline:
There are some interesting hits, but it still remains unclear how these connect to anybody else.
- JOHN as a link:
- JOHN matches CASH.
- JOHN matches ED.
- This weakly supports the Letitia theory that CASH is related to ED.
- Unfortunately we do not know how the JOHN family fits in.
- JOHN borderline matches YIELD/BUTLER and BART.
- This weakly supports the Baronets theory that CASH is related to YIELD and BART.
- Unfortunately we do not know how the JOHN family fits in.
- MCA as a link:
- MCA matches CASH.
- MCA is a borderline match of REV and maybe GOD.
- This weakly supports the Letitia theory that CASH is related to REV.
- Unfortunately we do not know how the MCA family fits in.
