Fitzgerald (The Geraldines)

It took some time for "Fitzgerald" to become the standard surname.
I retrospectively name most of them Fitzgerald from the start (except for the line that became Fitzmaurice).

Maurice Fitzgerald de Windsor,
the "Invader of Ireland", born 1100.

He was the principal leader under Strongbow of the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland in 1169.
He built Wicklow Castle.
He was granted Maynooth, Co.Kildare, by Strongbow in 1176.
He died 1176, Wexford, age 76 yrs.
He had issue:

1. Gerald Fitzgerald, 1st Baron of Offaly.
   Ancestor of Earls of Kildare and Dukes of Leinster.

   
   

2. Thomas Fitzgerald.
   Thomas FitzMaurice.
   He was granted land at Shanid, Co.Limerick, 1197.
   He built Shanid Castle 1200.
   He died 1213.
   He had issue:

   
   

   1. John Fitzgerald, 1st Baron Desmond.
      Ancestor of Earls of Desmond and Knights of Glin and Knights of Kerry.

      
      

   2. Maurice Fitzthomas Fitzgerald, born c.1197.
      KERRY in [Complete Peerage] says that the father of Thomas, 1st Baron Kerry, was Maurice, brother of John, 1st Baron Desmond, and son of Thomas FitzMaurice.
      He built Killorglin Castle 1215.
      He died pre-1253.
      He had issue:
      1. Thomas Fitzmaurice, 1st Baron Kerry,
         born probably c.1220.
         Ancestor of Barons Kerry and Earls of Kerry and Earls of Shelburne and Marquesses of Lansdowne.
