William Malone



William Malone,
William Michael Malone,
bapt 28 September 1856.
At mar 1890 he was living 2 Orwell Rd, Rathgar. He is "tailor".

He mar 4 June 1890, Dundrum RC church, to Catherine Hassard [born 1863, Co.Dublin, dau of John Hassard, gardener].

At mar she was living "Manor House", Dundrum.
[Thom's] shows Manor House was a large house in Dundrum area. Exact location unclear. Maybe near Manor Mill Laundry.
"Mrs. O'Farrell" is listed at Manor House in [Thom's, 1884, p.1543].
The Long family is listed at Manor House in [Thom's, 1894, p.1577].

At son's birth 1894, William and Catherine are living at 28 Queen's Terrace, Dublin (near Pearse St, now gone). He is "tailor".
They are listed in 1901 census at Ryan's Buildings, Camden Street Lower, Dublin. He is "tailor". Catherine is "dressmaker".
They are listed in 1911 census at Albert Place West, Charlemont St Lower, Dublin. He is "tailor". Catherine is "dressmaker".
Catherine died 19 Apr 1918 in Dublin. Death cert not found.
[Julie Fenelon's notes] say that after Catherine died, her sister Sophie helped with the children. Though they were age 14 to 24, so one wonders how much help was needed. Incredibly, the youngest, Eddie, was put in an orphanage.
William died 7 July 1925 in Dublin.
They had issue:


  1. John Malone,
    John Joseph William Malone,
    born 5 March 1894, 28 Queen's Terrace, Dublin. See birth cert from here.
    He married 1919, Dublin, to Nora Staunton [Nora Mary Josephine Staunton].
    Emigrated to Australia. Came to Queensland 1925.
    Lived most of his life in Bowen, Queensland.
    Among his papers was found a newspaper report of the Alderman's funeral 1931. On it was handwritten "Uncle Michael's funeral". (In fact his granduncle.)
    Nora died 1958.
    John died 1964, age 70 yrs.
    He had issue:

    1. Catherine Mary Malone,
      born in Dublin, 21 June 1921, or 1920,
      family went to Australia 1925,
      mar Leslie Carlyle Dann,
      had issue:

      1. Jim Dann.
        DNA match to me.
        DNA match to my mother.


  2. Mary Malone,
    Molly, Mary Elizabeth, born 30 Jan 1896, Dublin city.
    Not at home in 1911 census.
    She mar 1920, Dublin, to Patrick Dominic Boyce.
    She died 1953.
    He died 1976.
    They had issue:

    1. Marie Boyce,
      Mary Catherine Boyce, born 21 June 1923 in Dublin.
      As a child she visited her mother's granduncle Alderman Michael Flanagan at Portmahon House. She played with the Cosgrave boys (her mother's 2nd cousins, but same age as Marie).
      She mar 1945, Dublin, to Jerome Lucas [Jerome F. P. Lucas].
      She lived Dublin.
      She wrote letter of 1980 to Julie Fenelon. Recalls Flanagan relations in her youth.
      She died.


  3. Joseph William Malone,
    born 5 May 1898, Dublin,
    died 24 Aug 1898, Dublin.

  4. Sophie Malone,
    or Sophia, born 5 May 1898, Dublin city,
    emigrated to America,
    mar 1923 to John Boylan [John Joseph Boylan],
    she died 1972.

  5. Elizabeth Malone,
    Bessie, born 3 Oct 1901, Dublin city,
    emigrated to America,
    she mar 1931 to Donald Blankenship [Donald Oliver Blankenship],
    she died 1971.

  6. Edward Malone,
    Eddie, Albert Edward, born 26 Apr 1904, Dublin city,
    emigrated to America,
    mar 1934 to Margaret Butler [Margaret M. Butler],
    he died 1979.
