Robert apparently died in the Workhouse in 1901:
He must be Robert Malone, tailor, married, of Charlemont Place, Dublin, who died 7 Nov 1901 in the Workhouse, Dublin South. See death cert from here.
It gives age as 62 (born 1839) but that could be error. Should probably be age 74.
However, how could he die in the Workhouse? Where was his wife? And his son William was alive and living nearby.
It would also be shocking considering that his brother-in-law (and godfather to his son) was the very wealthy Michael Flanagan, TC, Alderman, JP.

Robert had issue by 1st wife:

  1. Patrick Malone,
Pat, Patrick William Elias Joseph Malone,
    would be after grandfather,
bapt 24 July 1853 [Rathmines RC par records], sp Michael Flanagan and Maryanne Malone.
See original bapt here and here.
    Emigrated to Australia, 1881-82.

  2. Thomas Malone,
bapt 11 March 1855 [Rathmines RC par records], sp William and Elizabeth Flanagan.
See original bapt here and here.
Must have died young. There is another Thomas.

Tom, Thomas John Malone, born 4 March 1862, Rathgar,

There are DNA matches between his descendants and Grahame Flor.
    Emigrated to America, pre-1885.

  7. Elizabeth Malone,
    Elizabeth Bridget Malone,

    They had issue.

  8. Agnes Malone,
    Agnes Ellen Malone [death cert],
    think NOT Agnes Elizabeth Malone,
    born 22 January 1866, Rathgar,
bapt 28 January 1866 [Rathmines RC par records], sp Patrick and Catharine Malone. See original bapt.
She died 30 June 1867, age 17 months, at Elmgrove Cottage, 88 Rathgar Rd [GROI].
[Julie Fenelon's notes] thought that "Elizabeth and Agnes went to Australia and became Nuns in Rockhampton." This is wrong. Elizabeth did go to Rockhampton, but married and had issue. And Agnes died young. Probably confusion with Mary, who did go to Australia, but also married and had issue.

Malone house, 88 Rathgar Road, Rathgar, Co.Dublin.

Patrick Malone (probably our Robert's father) is listed as provision dealer at "Rathgar" in [Thom's] 1847 to 1855.
He is listed under "Rathgar" not under the separate listing for Rathgar Road, so this may be a different place to 88 Rathgar Road later.
Patrick Malone probably died in 1855-1858.
Mrs. Malone, provision dealer, and Thomas Malone, tailor, are listed on "Rathgar Road" (no numbers) in [Thom's] 1858 to 1860.

Robert Malone's daughter was born 1858 at "Rathgar Road".
"B. Malone, merchant tailor" is at 88 Rathgar Road in [Thom's] at least 1868 to 1874. This could be Robert (Bob).

The address 88 Rathgar Road is now a Nepalese restaurant, "Lumanti of Nepal". But it is apparently a newer building.

From modern NIAH map.
[Thom's, 1874] confirms that the numbering of this part of Rathgar Road has not changed.
See modern street view at corner of Wesley Rd.

Extract from 1888-1913 map.
This suggests that the Malone house (would be the one beside the arrow) is since gone to re-development.

This appears to be a new building.
