Patrick Hourigan, of The Hill


Patrick Hourigan,
Pat, bapt 28 Mar 1849.
He inherited The Hill when John Hourigan died in June 1874.
He is farmer, living Murroe, at mar.
He mar 21 Aug 1875 to Mary Ryan.
See mar cert from here. Mar cert suggests they were both illiterate.
He died 2 Feb 1888, age 38 yrs.
Mary is listed in 1901 census at Knocknagorteeny (The Hill). She is farmer, widow.
Patrick and Mary had among other issue:


  1. John Hourigan,
    bapt 14 June 1876.
    At home in 1901 census.
    Living Knocknagorteeny (The Hill) at mar. He is farmer.
    He mar 22 Feb 1911 to Ellen Gleeson [born 1876].
    See mar cert from here. Says they are age 21, but this just means they are age over 21.
    He farmed at The Hill.
    They are listed in 1911 census at Knocknagorteeny (The Hill). He is farmer.
    Ellen died 4 May 1951, age 75 yrs.
    John died 29 Jan 1959, age 82 yrs.
    They are bur at Abington. See grave photo and transcript.

    They had among other issue:


    1. Patrick Hourigan,
      Paddy, born 13 Dec 1916.
      He mar 26 Oct 1949 to Maureen Corbett.
      Lived at The Hill.
      He died 2 Mar 1985.
      Maureen died 2012.
      They are bur at Abington with his parents.
      They had issue:

      1. John Hourigan.
        He mar Patricia Mortell and had issue.
        He contributed to Hourigan family history.


  2. Mary Hourigan,
    bapt 7 May 1884.
    Her father died 1888.
    She is not living at The Hill at mar.
    She mar 6 October 1919 [him age 56, widower] to Robert Paul Gill [born 1863].
    He was a brother of T. P. Gill, Irish Parliamentary Party MP.
    He was an engineer and architect.
    In 1889 he became the architect of "New Tipperary".
    He mar 1stly to Margaret Mary Stephens and had issue. She died.

    Lived Fattheen House, near Nenagh, Co.Tipperary.
    He died 1928.

    They had issue:


    1. Tomás Mac Giolla, TD,
      born Thomas Gill, 25 January 1924, Nenagh.
      President of Sinn Fein.
      Leader of the Workers' Party.
      Lord Mayor of Dublin 1993 to 1994.
      He died 2010.
