Baron Werner von Trapp
Proved:
-
The family that Connie O'Mara married into
is definitely the famous von Trapps.
- We have the
wedding invitation
for
Connie O'Mara's wedding in 1914.
It
is signed by
"Agathe Trapp"
(Agathe Whitehead, died 1922)
and her Whitehead relations.
-
Agathe von Trapp
(the daughter, born 1913)
in her memoir
frequently refers to her aunt Connie ("Tante Connie"), wife of Werner, with a daughter Connie.
2010 edn has photos of all three.
On p.68 she says Aunt Connie is from Ireland.
-
[Anderson, 1998]
says Werner's wife was
"Aunt Connie", Irish,
with a daughter.
-
Connie junior knew
the singing family,
her 1st cousins,
and complained that the movie about them was inaccurate.
Unproved:
-
The only question is whether Connie O'Mara was a governess too.
She was supposed to have gone to
Austria as a governess, and
married the son of the house.
-
This is (suspiciously) the same story as that of
Maria.
Did two brothers marry two governesses?
-
On the other hand, Connie did marry him,
and what was she doing there if not a governess?
Baron Werner von Trapp,

Muffie de Courcy

Etienne Rynne
met her there 1957.
She
mar c.1959 (post-1957) to Oskar Hagl [NOT Hegel], no issue.
They lived Bastiengasse 56/3, Vienna.
Apparently she was allowed keep the name "von Trapp" after marriage,
since she was the only von Trapp left in Vienna
(after the singing family
had fled to America 1938).
He was an invalid. She had to nurse him.
She visited Ireland 1961.
She died think c.1969, age c.53-54 yrs.
She was possibly living in Austria in 1972.
A picture labelled
"Connie Trapp, Rougemont 1938".
This must be Connie junior.
Apparently a portrait done by Lilias Ruthven Stuart.

-
This portrait was found in the belongings of
Lilias Ruthven Stuart (born 1918), who lived with her family in Vienna about 1936 to 1938.
In Vienna, Lilias went to art school. She and her family knew the singing von Trapps.
-
After the Nazi takeover, in late 1938,
the Stuarts escaped to Rougemont, Switzerland,
for a few months before travelling to the UK.

Arms on
Mary O'Mara's

These must be arms of von Trapp.
Though it does not look like the von Trapp arms in
