Other children of a Patrick Collins
Our
Patrick Collins had two wives called Mary.
Rathfarnham was a huge parish
and we can find many entries for children of a Patrick Collins and an unidentified Mary (no surname).
Identifying which ones are our Patrick is difficult.
For some, there is evidence/proof in favour of this being our family.
We include these above
and explain the reasoning.
For others, there is no good evidence in favour,
or there is evidence/proof against.
We list these here.
Children of a
Patrick Collins and an unidentified Mary:
- Bridget Collins,
bapt 13 July 1837,
Rathfarnham RC church,
sp Pat Toole
and Margaret Doyle.
See entry.
At first this looks like our family
because it matches the grandmother
and Toole.
But
this cannot be our family since it conflicts with the baptism of Mary in Apr 1837,
whose mother is definitely Mary Walsh.
- William Collins,
bapt 29 May 1839,
Rathfarnham RC church,
sp Micheal Kelly
and Catherine Keogh.
See entry.
A bit too close to the bapt of Elenor Collins in Sept 1838.
Probably not our family.
- Ann Collins,
bapt 24 Nov 1840,
Rathfarnham RC church,
sp James Toole
and Elizabeth Kelly.
See entry.
Our family had Catherine bapt 29 Nov 1840.
So this is clearly a different family.
- Margaret Collins,
bapt 28 July 1844,
Rathfarnham RC church,
sp Catherine Doyle
and John Doyle.
See entry.
A bit too close to the bapt of Pat Collins in Nov 1843.
He is probably our family
so Margaret is probably
not our family.
Note she also must be different family to Stephen.
- Stephen Collins,
bapt 20 Dec 1844,
Rathfarnham RC church,
sp Charles Toole
and Julia Toole.
See entry.
This may be our family because of the match to Toole.
But the evidence is weak.
Must be different family to Margaret.
- Mary Rosanna Collins,
bapt 22 Jan 1847,
Rathfarnham RC church,
sp Laurence (poss. Kearney)
and Teresa Blake.
See entry.
- Pat Collins,
bapt 18 Dec 1848,
Rathfarnham RC church,
sp Morris Collins
and Bridget Collins.
See entry.
Could be our family because of Bridget.
There is also one that was incorrectly indexed as child of Patrick and Mary Collins:
- Maurice Collins,
bapt 28 July 1833,
Rathfarnham RC church,
sp Michael Walsh
and Mary Kilbride.
The original entry
shows his parents are actually Patrick and Margaret Collins.
Sources yet to be consulted
- Patrick Collins' will once existed. It was proved in 1881. Does it survive?
- "P. Cullen" is listed as "nephew" of Anne Collins at her
funeral 1910.
