Alexander Gibbon


Alexander Gibbon,
bapt 4 July 1752, Aberdeen.
He was a ship-captain.
He mar 23 June 1776 to his 1st cousin Isobel Duncan [born 1752].
Alexander was bur 16 Aug 1810 at Nigg Bay, age 58 yrs.
Isobel was bur 24 Sept 1820, at Nigg Bay, age 68 yrs.
They had issue:


  1. Robert Gibbon,
    bapt 24 June 1778 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen].


  2. Alexander Gibbon,
    bapt 10 Aug 1779 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen].
    He was a shipmaster in Aberdeen.
    He must be "Alexander Gibbon, junior" of Aberdeen listed as a subscriber to Christian Milne's book of poems in 1805.
    He mar 16 Mar 1809 to his 1st cousin (and 2nd cousin) Ann Coutts [born 1782 or 1783].
    They mar at St.Nicholas', Aberdeen.
    Alexander dies in Canada, 1811:
    He was lost in the St.Lawrence River, Canada, 6 July 1811, age 31 yrs [grave].
    His grave is at Nigg Bay, but his body would not be buried there. See findagrave.
    She must be "Mrs. Alexander Gibbon" who is listed at 12 Quay, Aberdeen, in [Aberdeen Directory, 1824-25]. Also there is a "Miss Gibbon" (maybe a sister of Alexander).
    "Mrs. Alexander Gibbon" is listed at 12 Quay, Aberdeen, in [Aberdeen Directory, 1829-30]. And up to 1833-34.
    She must be "Mrs. Alexander Gibbon junior" who is listed at 11 Quay, Aberdeen, in [Aberdeen Directory, 1834-35]. She is listed there in [Aberdeen Directory, 1835-36]. And listed there in [Aberdeen Directory, 1839-40].
    Ann dies, 1847:
    She died 19 May 1847, age 64 yrs [grave] or 65 yrs [burial record].
    She was bur 24 May 1847 at Nigg Bay.
    They had issue:

    1. Alexander Gibbon,
      bapt 5 Dec 1810 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen].
      He mar 1862 to Helen Lumsden Pirrie [born 1838].
      He erected parents' gravestone at Nigg Bay.
      He was Surgeon, in India.
      He died 1890.
      She died 1918.

    2. Isabel Gibbon.


  3. George Gibbon.
  4. Charles Gibbon, bapt 5 Nov 1782 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen].


  5. John Gibbon,
    bapt 22 Nov 1784 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen].
    He was a shipowner.
    He must be John Gibbon, Merchant, Trustee of the Aberdeen and Hull Shipping Company, who was co-owner think as at 1825 of the Bromby (built 1815) and the Fox (built 1819).
    He was bur 28 Aug 1846 in Aberdeen area, age 61 yrs.


  6. Ann Gibbon,
    bapt 22 Nov 1784 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen], must be twin with John.
    She might be "Ann Gibbon" who is listed in lodgings at 11 Regent Quay, Aberdeen, in [Pigot's directory of Scotland, 1837].

  7. James Gibbon, born 1786.
    [Wyllie, 2020, p.313] says he was "French prisoner".
    He died 1811.

  8. Isabel Gibbon,
    Isabel Christian Gibbon, bapt 22 Mar 1788 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen].
    She died 1862.

  9. Arthur Gibbon,
    bapt 30 July 1790 [St.Nicholas', Aberdeen].


  10. Elizabeth Gibbon.
    "Miss E. Gibbon" is listed at 4 Regent Quay, Aberdeen, in [Aberdeen directory, 1835-36].
    She must be "Miss E. Gibbon" who is listed at 11 Quay, Aberdeen (with her brother's widow) in [Aberdeen Directory, 1839-40].
    "Miss E. Gibbon" is listed on Mackie place, Aberdeen, in [Aberdeen Directory, 1840-41].
