Reginald Herbert, 15th Earl of Pembroke


Reginald Herbert, 15th Earl of Pembroke,
and 12th Earl of Montgomery, and 4th Baron Herbert of Lea,
born 8 Sept 1880.

He mar 21 Jan 1904 to Beatrice Eleanor Paget.
He succ 1913.
Wilton House was used as a Red Cross military hospital in WWI.
15th Earl was party to a Deed with Nell Humphreys in 1921 relating to his property in Dublin.

Wilton House was a major military HQ in WW2:
In 1940, in WW2, Wilton House was requistioned for use as the HQ of Southern Command (all of SW England, see history).
The Double Cube room was the operations room where Churchill and Eisenhower planned the Allied invasion of Europe in 1944.

The family got Wilton House back in 1949.
15th Earl died 13 Jan 1960, age 79 yrs.
Beatrice died 1973.
Memorial to both of them in Wilton parish church. See 2023 photo.
15th Earl and Beatrice had issue:


  1. Lady Patricia Herbert, born 12th Nov 1904,
    mar William Smith, 3rd Viscount Hambledon and had issue.


  2. Sidney Herbert, 16th Earl of Pembroke, born 9th Jan 1906.
