John Lynne


John Lynne.
He was a merchant, of the parish of St Dunstan-in-the-East, London.
Herald's visitation of 1564 says he was a Merchant of the Staple.
He mar before 1442 to Joan Knyvet.
In 1442 they acquired her family property, Southwick Hall, Northamptonshire.
Southwick Hall became the Lynne seat.
His will dated 1486.
He died 1486-1487.
Will pr in Prerogative Court of Canterbury, 9 Aug 1487.
John and Joan had issue:


  1. Richard Lynne,
    of Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire.
    Vice-Chamberlain to Margaret Beaufort (died 1509), mother of Henry VII.
    He was bur 1509.
    Great-grandfather of:

    • William Lynne,
      born 1562,
      of Bassingbourn.
      He mar 10 Feb 1589 (new style year) to Elizabeth Steward [bapt 28 Oct 1565, dau of William Steward].
      He died 22 July 1589, age 27 yrs.
      Elizabeth remarried, probably 1591, to Robert Cromwell [of Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire] and had issue.
      Elizabeth and Robert were the parents of Oliver Cromwell [born 1599].

    of Southwick Hall, Northamptonshire.
