William Lynne


William Lynne,
of Southwick Hall, Northamptonshire.
Herald's visitation of 1564 describes him as of London. (The family were of London until they acquired Southwick Hall.)
He mar Margaret Lexham [dau of William Lexham, of Lexham's Manor, Burnham Westgate, Norfolk, by his wife Margaret Oldhall].
Marriage settlement 1490.
His will dated 1505.
He died 23 Apr 1511. He was bur Southwick.
Will pr in Prerogative Court of Canterbury, 1 July 1511.
Margaret mar 2ndly, 1513, to Humphrey Roos of Laxton, Nottinghamshire.
Humphrey died 17 July 1521.
Margaret was alive in 1529. See [Case of 1529-1532].
She was living as late as 1537.
William and Margaret had issue:


  1. Guy Lynne,
    of Southwick Hall,
    born c.1490.
    Listed as age 21 or more at father's death in 1511.


  2. Audrey Lynne.
    She mar Sir Richard Gresham.
    He was a wealthy merchant involved with the Royal court and international trade.
    She died 1522.
    He was Lord Mayor of London 1537.
    He died 1549.
    They had issue:


    1. Sir Thomas Gresham.
      International merchant and financier who acted for the Crown.
      One of the richest men in England.
      Founder of the Royal Exchange 1565.
      He died 1579.
      His will founded Gresham College in 1597, the first institution of higher learning in London.


    2. Christian Gresham.
      She mar Sir John Thynne and had issue.
      Ancestors of the Marquesses of Bath.
